So excited to add 2 Blue Throated Conures to the flock!

I like the names too, I forgot to mention that. I've never been 'too creative' with pet names. I named my first bird, a budgie "Sandy" cause as a kid me and my mom watched 'Flipper' a lot. I named my cockatiel 'Peaches' cause she was sweet and fuzzy and had that orange cheek patch. I named my sun conure 'Skittles' because of his colors, but its hardly an original name. I should have named him 'Loki' cause he's a little trickster, but his name just seems to suit him. His personality is even more colorful than his feathers.

Quite a few farents on this forum have come up with some very original and creative names. I wish I could be that inventive. I originally named "Peaches" the name "Tortilla' because she loved Doritos.

I really do admire the creative names people use for their fids.

Blue throats are new to me! They are gorgeous! Welcome home little guys :)

Never! Always love to see more pics of the flock. :)

Took some pics in the little bird room last night and will be starting a new thread later:) Thank you for asking!

Congrats! Beautiful! I wonder if they are the same two that I saw at a local pet shop (I live right by you)?? I saw two blue throated conures about 2 months ago and they were so sweet. A bit shy, but so sweet. I have a video of them enjoying scratches from me:) So exciting to add new flock members! I only have one so I don't know that feeling...yet ;)

Kalel, the people we got them from had them for a year, so it couldn't be the same ones...which pet shop? I'd love to see them and your video as well!
Love your "yet" in adding new flock members!
Hey, are you going to the Parrot show next weekend?
Those two were such a great find Terry :)! Bonded but people friendly too, what more can you ask for, that's awesome. Psyche and Eros are a beautiful couple! Congrats again my friend.
I can't believe they are both as tame as they are. The lady we got them from had really worked with them in the last year. She said they were super wild when she got them.

Wow Terry!! They are absolutely gorgeous!! Congrats on you new additions! You have some flock! I didn't realize you had that many birds! How cool! :D

Thanks Blanca! You know, I don't even realize how many birds we have until I list them..lol.

So beautiful Terry, congratulations! Not a species you see often at all.

Thank you Chris, I had never even seen any before these guys, I am so happy to have found them:)

They're beautiful.
Thank you, Mark:)

I love the names you have chosen! Skittles is such a perfect name for him, especially since it fits his personality as well. I have a penchant for using names from mythology,TV and movies...lol

Terry they are so cute. Congrats.

Thank you Christine:)

Thank you! I love conures so much, and I can't stop looking at them:)

This is a late reply, but I'm so happy for you! Congrats on your two new flock members!! :D ^-^

Hi Terry,

I remember seeing a couple on sale on Kijiji sometime last year! The ones that I saw were in Petland here in Edmonton. The west end location that used to be at Mayfield Common but I heard they moved to the old PetSmart location on Stony Plain Rd and about 180 Street approximately. Near the Walmart. I just checked my photos on my phone and it was on January 12 that I saw them. This chain does sometimes move birds around to other locations if they don't sell for a while so I wonder if they still have them. I would give them a call and they can let you know if they've been moved :) I will try to upload the video and pics, but I haven't done that in a while so hopefully I can figure out how. And YES, I will be at the Parrot show! I'd love to meet you there :)

Here you go!

Hopefully this works;)

The last one is the video. I was alone so I couldn't film myself giving him scratches. I thought I had that on video but I just now found that I don't. At least you can see a video of him sitting on my finger :)

Kalel, these are the same ones that were on Kijiji last year..I so wanted them then but just couldn't afford them. We lucked out this time and were able to do some drywall work for them, or I probably wouldn't have them now either.
Thank you for the pictures, I am going to swing by the new Petland to check it out and get mealworms this weekend anyway, and will hopefully see them. How much were they, do you remember?

Just saw this post Terry! Congrats on the new additions, simply breathtaking!!

We were at the west end petland last night on our way to bulk barn next door picking up some ingredients for our first chop making adventure for our new baby (saturday can't come fast enough)!! They (petland) had two beautiful parrots avail, a 3 month old african grey and a sweet little senegal. They go through birds there very quickly it seems! Always something new to see!

Tim, I am such a Bulk Barn fanatic! I find it so hard to get out of there without spending at least $100..lol.
Can't wait to see your first chop! What goodies did you get?
I don't know if you ever make it out to Spruce, but the Walmart there has amazing veggies and fruits on the $1.00 rack. Not sure about the Stony Plain Rd. one, been awhile since I've been to that one. Thanks for the heads up about which birds they have at that Petland...they do seem to go through them pretty quickly.

Is Saturday definitely the day? I am so excited for you!!!!

They are stunning! I've never seen a blue throated conure before, what's their temperament like?

Thank you! These are the only ones I have ever been around, and they are really sweet. Psyche steps right up and Eros loves scritches. Even when they nip, it doesn't hurt as they haven't used any pressure. If they are all like these guys, then their temperament is amazing.

Yup! Saturday morning I pick her up at the airport!! Should be a very interesting day! lol

For the chop we mainly followed Patricia Sund's recipe. Recipe Link We found nearly everything on the list between bulk barn and save on. We added a couple of other items from another of her recommendations. Sure glad we have a food processor!!! Anyway we should have enough food to last her I'm guessing 3 months or so. Was a good adventure! Thanks for the tip about walmart ... next time we'll investigate for sure!!

They are beautiful! Not readily available in this area, but my husband is from Canada (Ontario) so I might check around there before we make a trip up. I am a conure fanatic!

There are a lot of great ingredients in her recipe. Did you take any pics of your chop? We love pics!!
Speaking of which, looking forward to all the pics as soon as you can post some when your beautiful girl gets home!

I know there is a breeder in Ontario, can send you the info when I find it again if you want. I am also a conure fanatic, I think they have become my favourite species:) Yours are sure gorgeous!

We portioned and bagged everything last night, ended up with 400 portions which I guess at a rate of 2 per day will give us 200 days worth of meals in the freezer! I tried it too ... would make a great salad if I added a little balsamic vinegar and olive oil! lol :D

I'll try for pics the next time was a little overwhelming the first time through!

That is a lot of chop!!! How long did it take you? Last time we did chop I worked on it for 2 days..lol
