Smoke outside?

Hey y'all, I have a quick question. My new roommate is interested in smoking her pipe out on our patio every once in a while (kinda rarely, she said she only smokes maybe like once every 1-2 months). It's not tobacco or anything illegal, she smokes these random legal herbs, but they still give off smoke of course. She knows how sensitive parrots' lungs are, but she was wondering if she could smoke outside on the patio and immediately afterwards shower and wash her clothes so that the smell doesn't linger on her when she's back inside. Would this be okay for my bird? If so, do I need to move her cage far away from the patio door?
Thanks in advance!

The door to the patio would be closed while she smokes, right? Does the patio area have a good breeze, or is the air there stagnant?

I'd be a little more cautious in this case than I would with cigarette smoke, since the blend she's smoking is kind of a wild card. Could be that it includes herbs with smoke more harmful than tobacco smoke to birds. Since it's only once every 1-2 months, it wouldn't be a big deal to move the cage to another room and close the door each time (I probably would).

However as long as there's decent airflow outside and the patio door seals well, I think that it should be okay. Make sure there's no unexpected air pathway (open windows on that side of the house, fan intake, etc) between the patio and where the cage is.

Good for your roommate for being so aware and considerate of your bird!

As stated very well above, happy your roommate is taking your Parrot into consideration.

FYI: Regarding your Roommates 'habit!' I have heard of this 'Herb' smoking and as it is becoming more popular, so are Emergency Rooms. This product is being activity push by Herb Shops to increase their sales. Lots of smiley stories and joys of healthier Herbs entering the body and doing wonderful things!!! ALL pure BS! Some, likely many of these Herbs burn much hotter than Weed or Tobacco and as a result can burn the Lungs of the user. To avoid this problem, some users are using Bongs or water pipes (think far eastern). They greatly cool the smoke, but also condenses and thickens it, which cause other serious Lung problems like extreme shortness of breath.

Regardless, you should observe your roommate when smoking. Any sign of breathing problems should result in a fast trip to Emergency Room!

As odd as this may sound, your roommate would be safer by visiting the local Tobacco Shop and selecting a blended Pipe Tobacco.

Thanks for the quick responses! :)
Yeah, I have wondered about the substance itself. I've never heard of it (it's called marshmallow root), but she said she doesn't inhale it in her lungs because it's more about taste, keeping most of the smoke in her mouth (I don't understand it, I'm sure lots of it still goes down the hatch, but whatever lol). I can't find much info about smoking it online, but apparently it's been used in teas since ancient times and is used to make some medicines. I'm interested in having some of this marshmallow tea now lol! My main concern about her smoking it, rather than drinking it, is that it appears to be a mucilage, so having it in your lungs might make them very mucusy and cause problems akin to cystic fibrosis symptoms. But that's a whole other discussion that we'll definitely be having.
I'll keep doing more research and decide if it's safe enough to move my bird's cage and let her do her hipster thing. If she only smokes once every couple months, it must not be that important to her, so I'm sure I can convince her not to do it anyway.
