Smelly poop?

Do certain foods make conure poop smelly?? I’ve noticed that when Jethro eats kale or broccoli his poop smells putrid but I know bird poop is supposed to be relatively odorless. Usually after I remove the veggies his poop is normal. Should I be concerned?

Kale and broccoli give small children belly-aches because of the higher sulfercontent of the plantmaterial, so yes that probably will affect the way the poop smells too.
(After eating raw broccoli mine really have stinky beaks too! Esp. if they offer to regurgitate.)

What you feed your bird can and will affect the color, smell and texture of their poop. For example, juice will cause watery stools and certain fruits and veggies can cause discoloration. Like how eating raw beets can cause 'pink' urine in people.

BUT, kale and broccoli are incredibly nutritious vegetables for parrots so I certainly wouldn't stop feeding it just based on that.

Broccoli can also cause gas, but its one of THE most nutrition rich vegetables on the planet.

Hmm, I can't imagine a sunnie doing that! LOL.

I know one grey who would *really* go for that. ;)
(she already poops on the other on on purpose, given a chance)

and yess... even if it makes them a bit stinky: feed them everything that is good for them!

I've found that hard boiled eggs can have that affect! Otherwise both mine have odourless poop :D :grey::red:

Thank you so much! I don’t plan on stopping. They’re his favorite of the veggies I’ve tried. I just panicked a lil bit when I noticed his stool smelling because I know smelly stool can be a sign of infection. But after he’s passed all his veggies his stool goes to normal.
