Kiwi is really proving to be a little smarty pants these days (which I'm still debating if thats a good thing or not:20. This evening I gave him his "space circles" foraging toy PTCF810 Space Circles by Creative Foraging - FORAGING TOYS which has a hole on top and is weighted in the back so the bird has to "tip" it forward, hold it and stick their beak in the hole to get the treat. Anyways, I came over with a tiny handful of walnut bits and sunflower seeds, which he immediately ran down and tried to grab out of my hand while I attempted to put them in the toy. Anyways, I managed to put them in the toy and tip it back so they all went to the bottom (for a bigger challenge) before he got any. He turns to me, pins his eyes and tells me "blank you!" (he unfortunately came knowing that 'phrase', it is nothing he heard from us:21: And yes, when he says it, it's in-context).
After letting me know how he felt about that, he immediately went after his treats and quickly remembered how the toy worked after months and months of it sitting in a drawer out of his view (we are seriously running out of new foraging puzzles to buy that he hasn't figured out yet). He is on the bottom of his play tree at this point picking out tiny bit by bit with great difficulty, as this toy is designed to be. I see him pause *gears are turning*, goes up to his second perch (which is next to the one the toy was on), he tips it forward so the treats comes forward then quite deliberately flips it upside down so ALL the treats fall out at once to the bottom of his play tree. Then he goes dow and devours them all in like 10 seconds flat:31: Now that he figured out that "trick", this toy is pretty much a write-off:30: I don't know what to do with this bird:22::09: How am I going to entertain a bird who's biggest joy in life has become solving puzzles when I inevitably run out of puzzles for him to solve?
On a cuter note, the other day I brought him a chunk of banana and put my face up to his bird door (the breeder door) and called him over. He scoots over and looks at the banana, then eyeballs my face, looks back at the banana in contemplation and before taking it, he reaches up and kisses me as if to say "thanks" Then he took his banana and scooted back into his cage to eat it.
