Josie - blue and gold macaw
I've been looking for a new cage for Josie and so many of the pics show b&g w/ green wings or cockatoos together in the same cage. So, if the cage is big enough, can you put 2 parrots in the same cage? A blue and gold with a green wing? Just curious.

I have never paired any of my birds, but have had several that had made their own choices and decided to cage themselves together, even though they were different species. You do realize that a good many cage & toy advertising pics have been Photoshopped or have been staged.

I'm not sure I would pair up two large macaws just for my convenience.

Oh, I wasn't thinking about pairing up 2 birds. I just keep seeing it in the ads and think that it is a strange thing to do. I would never be able to leave them alone if there were 2 in a cage...I would be scared to death. IMO they all need their own space.

That's a wise view, josiesmom!

My B&G and my Military Macaw had lived together, sharing the same cage for 23 years. During this '2-decade plus' span they were clearly bonded and seemed to adore one another. Unfortunately in 2005 when I brought another Macaw into my home, my Military suddenly flipped out on my B&G. He started literally trying to kill him. After some severe bites upon my B&G I realized the two birds could no longer have physical contact. I think at the very least my scenario demonstrates that if you house more than one large parrot together (possibly applicable to mid-size and smaller ones as well), there is some risk involved. It's entirely possible to return home to a dead, or seriously maimed bird one day :(

I have three small parrots and none of them interact with each other except by talking to each other . each has their own cage. but they all show aggresion to each other if they get too close when out of their cages . all the cages are near each other but I would never trust them together.:)

When I first brought my two boys home, who are brothers from different hatch dates I had them in the same aviary. My aviary is 5'X8' and within 3 months I had to divide the aviary once Roscoe the younger one began to become dominate over Angel who does have disibilities. All of my birds have t nheir own cage & play perches except the 8 budgies. They are in a large flight cage and do ok together.

I agree the ads are very misleading for folks who are just getting their first bird & think they can save space by putting multiple birds in one cage.
