So Kong will be here in 7 days very excited we are, I have concerns about him getting depressed after being with my dad for the last 18 yrs. I have a plan and please some one tell me if it is good or bad or to add anything to it.
Plan: set up Kongs cage his original nota new one, offer some fresh fruit and water then I plan on just sitting with him talking softly leaving his cage door open but the door to the room closed, let Him come out on his own.
My father has I informed me on the 3 times he has moved with Kong each time Kong would sit quitely for about a day or two until he was sure nothing would jump out and get him.
Ithought about all3 of us sitting with him quietly but then I thought it might overwhelm him.
He is used to being in the car but not in a cage, and he is going to be in there for about 9-10hrs drive from PA to ME
Aside from not eating and picking out feathers what are some other signs of depression, if he getting attention how likely would he get depressed? My main concern is the 18 yrs he spent with my dad. I do think he would ever forget my dad.
What's the oldest birds you rescued or adopted??
Thank you for reading and offering advice!

I don't know if it really helped or not but I took in a 20 year old CAG who's mom got too old and sick to her any longer I made sure to tell Jj that her mommy loves her very much and she is sad that she could not keep her but we are going to give her a wonderful home a
Where she has a sister-Lola and lots of toys to play with and even 2 dogs that will help keep her having a good time. Like I said I don't know if it did anything or not as Jj and I have a lot of issues to work through. But I do believe they understand a lot so I treat her as I would want to be treated.

The poster was talking about signs of depression in the bird not themselves.
