Should I House Two Conures in the Same Room

Hi everyone. I have a female sun conure that is 9 months old. I recently got another sun conure that is probably a boy and is 3 years old. I want to house them in separate cages in the same room. Is that a good idea? I don't want to affect the 9 month old conures behavior though. Please tell me if this is a good idea. Also, the 3 year old conure bites a lot while inside the cage but once you take it out, he is the nicest bird. Please give me some pointers. Thank you.

Hi! I would definitely house them in the same room (assuming your new one is done with a quarantine period for safety of your other bird). No matter what, they'll hear each other if they are in separate rooms. And if you keep them separate they will likely make a lot more noise calling each other. It would be nice for them to have each others' company too, even if they aren't in the same cage but they can see each other. :)

I agree with Rosembers.

If you house them in separate rooms, they WILL make more noise - particularly 'louder' noise.

While they will likely still make noise in the same room, it won't be as loud or as often since they can 'see' each other.

Housing two or more birds in the same room isn't ever a bad idea unless there is a behavioral or size issue. It's housing them in the same cage that can be a problem.

Skittys Daddy made a good point - housing in the same cage can be the problem more so than housing in the same room.

We have some birds that wouldn't stand being in the same cage for 10 seconds, but they are content seeing and hearing each other while they are in their own digs :) We've found that housing birds in the same room helps them get familiar with each other too and get along better when they're out around the house together.

I ended up housing my first two conures in separate rooms.... one lived in the bird room, the other lived with me. However, this was due to preferences of the birds.

I now have 3 conures (2nd, 3rd and 4th - 1st passed on years ago :( ) and house them all in the same room. This is more so for space than anything else, since moving I don't have as much space as I used to.

Parrots are flock creatures, so I agree that if possible, it would be a good idea to house them in the same room. They don't need to share a cage, but being in the same room they can provide company for each other. Heck, they don't even have to get along to become flock mates!
