Should I breed my lorikeet with a wild bird?

So I have a rainbow lorikeet (australia) and it's mating season. When we put her outside there is another lorikeet that comes to the cage. She had started nesting and it is obvious they want to mate. Is this a bad idea?

That's a terrible idea, if you want them to breed go out and buy one

It is a terrible idea...
1. DISEASE.
2. separation (because they mate and then what?? He cannot be made captive, and parrots get very attached).
3. Babies that you cannot care for and she cannot tend on her own...

Breeding is VERY complicated and expensive, so don't just "start breeding" unless you have A) apprenticed experience (long-term)....plus, some extra cages, an incubator, humidity gauges, baby bird formula and LOTS of time...It can also pose a threat to your mother bird.

Please do not breed with a wild bird. Wild lorikeet populations are rife with beak and feather disease, psittacosis and I don’t know what else. Plus breeding baby birds is not guaranteed successful particularly if you are not prepared to intervene if it turns out they are lousy parents!

Agreed with everyone here -- while good intended, allowing the breeding of your pet to a wild bird can be a welcome mat for disease, unhealthy chicks and unseen pathogens. Just not a good idea, sorry.

If you're interested in breeding, I suggest getting a mate for your hen and doing the proper research to have babies this way.
