Shiro the budgie
I hope this type of thread is okay, if not I apologize!

I just wanted a place to post some pictures and updates about my new bird. He's my first bird and I'm still learning a lot about him, but I already really love having him home with me.

I adopted Shiro May 9th (2017) from Craigslist. His previous owner told me he was at least 1.5 years old and originally came from Petco. He's a male albino budgie (if you couldn't already tell).

Here are some pictures of hand feeding from today as well as another from earlier in the week.

We *love* picture threads! This is a great location, or the Budgie forum. Your choice, if you'd like it moved let me know via PM!

Shiro is a beauty, last pic on the laptop is priceless. Would be a great entry in the current "may I?" themed Picture Of The Month Contest!

What a cutie, and welcome to the Parrot Forums! His eyes look dark, not pink, is that just the picture? If they are dark, he's not technically and albino, but he's adorable regardless!

Shiro is a gorgeous bird. I can tell 'he' does have red eyes. But Shiro is a girl... light blue with white cere is a young female or outside of breeding condition. :) Keep the cute pics coming!

Thank you... his cere is more blue/purple in real life and he doesn't have any white rings around the nostril. I'm pretty confident he's a male and have been told by several people on a budgie forum he's almost certainly male. I used a filter on this photo so that might have changed the color a bit.

He does have dark red eyes with a light ring iris. Also, he is white but he has some faint gray banding on his neck and on his wings which I think is so pretty.

Thanks everyone for having a look.

It's been a little over a month since I took Shiro home and I haven't been on the forum much, but I wanted to make a little update here.

I've made a lot of progress with Shiro in terms of taming and bonding. He now loves eating his pellets as well as sprouted seeds, various veggies, some fruits, and occasionally he get's a flax seeds/chia seed/sesame seed mix for a treat.

He's come out of his shell quite a bit and spends the day chattering and making trill sounds as well as yelling at the kitchen faucet for being too loud.

When he's in a good mood he'll let me pet him and give him scratches as well :)

Here are some photos of him hanging out and a little video of him getting some pets on while hanging out on me.

What a beautiful lil budgie! You ae certainly on the waay to boding with him. When scratching him, try going against the grain of his feathers, most parrts like that ( Ekkies generally do not). WHen he closes his eyes, you are THERE ! If you can, some parrots like to be scratched right along the jaw line, so try that too. He holds so still for you! Are you into training him at all? Tricks and stuff? Doing that can make your parrot trust you even more.

Such a cute bird. Looks like you are on the right track to making a life long tiny friend.

Thanks for the tips! He doesn't always hold so still for me! :p Usually he's fill of energy but sometimes he gets sleeping sitting on me or just deicides to relax and I can spend a few minutes petting him.

I would like to train him more yes! So far we have just practiced him jumping from his stand to my hand and then back to the stand again.
