Hello!

My wife and I have had a green cheek conure (who is trying to help me type) for almost a year. We live in North East Alabama and would like to know what sex our bird is. Do any of you have suggestions.

Thanks
Chris

With a GCC it would be a DNA test usually performed by a vet but not always. I have a friend with a GCC that she called Sam for 10 years thinking the bird was male. Bird starting laying eggs and you know what that means. Now Sam is Samantha.

Yep, I had a tiny bit of blood taken by the vet and they also check for any nasties which is a good idea.

I've read, and don't quote me, that males heads are a little flatter a the top that females. I've noticed this on my brid Loco who is a male. Not sure how it compares to females. DNA testing is really the only way.

I had my pineapple green cheek dna tested through Animal Genetics/Avian Biotech. Their website is avianbiotech.com It was quick, easy, and inexpensive. :)

Max will be Maxine is he turns out to be a female... I could do a DNA test... They're not very expensive, but with Max I'll just wait.
