Parts of this will be off topic but bear with me. So I am sick. My husband gave me his cold. I had to work tonight and REALLY didn't want to cuz I feel rotten (not to mention, that I really wanted to just curl up w/ Midori since she is such a little cuddle bug.) So I go in and let my managers know, that I would be much better off going home and taking some Nyquil. Yeah, they weren't having that. So much so that they ended up keeping me SO much later than normal. (qwe had a HUGE party come and to eat.) Feeling rotten, I head home finally at 11:30. I am NEVER there that late. I walk in the door to see John on his couch with an apparently VERY spoiled baby bird asleep on his chest. This is the NON bird person, PER SAY.. HA! She has him wrapped around her little claw too, it seems. I went to put her up, and of course she bolts awake, so at least I got to love on her a bit before I put her back down. before I put her down, she told me ALL about her day from the time I left until I got home, it seemed. Ducky sounds and chirping for a good 30 min, before I put her back to sleep by petting her head and underneath her chin. Needless to say, she made my night better : )

What a cutie!

In my experience, you have to be VERY firm with supervisors, if you are an employee! I practically had to beg my old supervisor to let me take a sick day, and that was working with elderly people!

I'm an independent contractor now. I don't have to convince anybody that I shouldn't come in anymore.

Yeah, working in a school is always interesting. They don't want you to call in sick because of course a substitute teacher needs to be called. But, when you go in sick they get upset that you're going to spread it all over school, lol! One time I had hives all over. I have a ton of allergies and knew it was an allergy, just wasn't sure to what yet. The secretary seemed to think I had Leprosy or something. I kept telling her it was an allergy, but she went so far as to call my doctor and make me an appointment and told me I had to leave. It turned out I was allergic to my new dish washer detergent!

I'm sorry you had such a miserable night at work, but I'm happy Midori was able to cheer you up!

I had that experience with my ex husband and a rat. I brought the rat home from school after some students took it there as a senior prank and threw it off the balcony onto other students. Someone caught it and brought it to me since I was the resident animal lover. So I took it home and my ex said he wanted to take it outside and kill it. Of course I said absolutely not! The next day I came home from work and there it was crawling all over him and hiding in his shirt pocket.

I'm sorry you got stuck at work but I'm glad your little fid cheered you up.
They have such a great way of doing that!!!

I keep hearing this word "fid". What exactly does it mean? I looked it up and the definition reads, "a thick peg, wedge, or supporting pin, in particular". Yes, our birds are definitely, fids!

Fid is short for fur kid : ) LOL at Roxy and the rat! I've had a couple of rats before. They were wonderful pets!!! Still feeling rotten, but I have a very sweet baby taking a nap on my chest so that makes up for it a little.

fur, feather or fin!*

I kind of like the literal definition more. I know that I have days when I need more support, emotionally, than on others, and Amigo will always be there as my supporting pin.

Hope you feel better, glad you have your fid to cheer you up :)

I love our "secret code"...fid=feathered kid, faby=feathered baby, parront=parrot parent, parrotphenalia=all the parrot themed items in our homes, there are others, just can't think of them right now.
