Nic Nic..."World's Quietest" Eleonora Cockatoo
I have posted this in the Questions and Answer forum as well, but REALLY wanted to pose the question to Cockatoo owners as well.

Some of you may have seen my posts over the past week.

We adopted our cockatoo Nic Nic last week, he has been incredible, he is sweet, quiet, playful and has already began talking a bit for us, even though he never said a word to his past owners.

Problem here is, I am certain my 3 year old is allergic to him. We have a doctors appointment tomorrow, just to be sure, but when ever he is around him, or even in our living room at this point, his eyes get red, irritated and he begins to have a difficult time breathing.

My wife took the boys out for the day and my son was fine, no trouble at all...they got home around 3pm and by 4:30 he was very sick again.

I have given Nic Nic baths, but have NO IDEA what else can be done.

We adore this little bird, he has become a beloved family member very quickly, but I cannot have my 3 year old ill.

Any help or suggestions would be incredibly welcome.

How about a air cleaner & limiting exposure to Nic nic. Other members have air cleaners for their birds, they can probably make recommendations. Good luck

DO you have an air Purifier?? My mom is allergic to her cockatoos dander as well. She keeps two air purifiers in the birds room and another in the birds play area. This has made a big difference. Also bathing the bird on a regular basis will help. She bathes him twice a week and uses a spray bottle the other days. I hope this helps.

That's been suggested to her in her other post...

We just bought a new air purifier.

That coupled with regular bathing and cleaning the cage daily seems to have worked nicely.

By the way....I'm a HE not a SHE.

Thanks...TONY
