Second galah to keep the first galah company?

I'm already glad! They are in separate cages a few metres apart, but are already interacting a bit. Yesterday they were both talking. They sounded for all the world like they were having a conversation, except of course it made no sense whatsoever haha! What a delight :).

Wait... They're in the same room? Aren't some diseases we quarantine for easily transmitted through air and I would imagine even dander...

It's ok I think... They are outside. Whirly is in a huge aviary, and Frank is in a small cage about 10metres away. I checked with the avian vet we've been seeing, and she said that would be fine.

I know I said 'a few metres' in my previous post, but it is actually more like 10!

GULP!! I truly hope and pray it's a false positive indeed!

Please understand that proper quarantine is imperative to prevent possible diseases from spreading. A quarantined bird should always be placed in an entirely different part of the house. Since many/most homes have central heat and air, it's even recommended to close the air ducts in the quarantine room. Clothing should be changed, and hands should be thoroughly washed before handling the existing bird(s). Yes, it can be a huge PITA, however, it can also potentially save lives. :)

Thanks everyone for your concern and advice.
It has been good to read all the information.
The birds are both outside in the back yard, and the avian vet said it should be fine because they are far enough away from each other and out in the fresh air, so the risk of spreading from one to the other through the air is low.
The wild birds in our back yard (who have who-knows what diseases!) get closer to Whirly than Frank is (they peck around at seeds that fall out of her aviary). So I really don’t think there is much more I can do. I could put him further away than he presently is, but then he wouldn’t be under any trees, and It would be way too hot for him (I’m in Western Australia).
I am definitely practicing good hygiene as best I can – I go see and feed Whirly first, and then see Frank last, and then go and wash my hands after. Basically I don’t go near Whirly If I have been near Frank. Not using anything from Franks cage in Whirly’s cage etc.

Frank's Psittacosis results came back: It was a false positive!
Whoop-Whoop!
Poor thing had to go to the vet twice for 2 injections for no reason, but better to be safe than sorry.
Yay, life can carry on. I'm going to put his cage next to Whirly's aviary now, to really get them used to each other!:grey:

Thank you so much for the update! :) What an enormous relief!!

Please keep us posted as you move them closer together, will you?
