Gandalf is larger than the North American crow, but smaller than the common raven. Here's an interesting fact about pied crows: Some scientists regard them as the modern link between ravens and crows. There are a couple characteristics that make them very similar to ravens. First off, their size. They are closer to ravens in size. Also, they have a drier, raspier voice than a crow, much like a raven.
