a beautiful umbrella cockatoo
Although I know people from all around the world are here, most schools in the U.S.A are starting back again soon! I HATE this transition. It must be really hard for Sarah. Having me to herself all day and then having me two hours a day. I was always one of those "all A" students and there is always a HUGE THICK layer of dread between me and school.

Is there any one else here who is stessing about school? I would love to hear from parents, kids, teens, young adults! I just kinda need to panic with others, or just have some stories to lower the severe anxiety...

Still have to finish summer reading! Sarah I am soooo sorry... I tell her that like fifteen times a day, cuz I gotta work now, leaving her screaming in the living room! And when I come out she puts on that cockatoo angel face feathers all covering her beak. Sweet and puffy...

Thanks for atleast reading!

Emotions now::mad::(:confused::22::eek::52::62::31:

I'm hoping to train up my macaws to like car rides so that I can bring them to uni with me :) I can't have them there when teaching though (I wouldn't want to leave them alone in my office) but if I'm doing research they can chill on a java stand covered in toys while I do work. (I spend more time there after hours so if they let out a macaw-call, less people to bother)

Depending on how close you are, maybe look at coming home for lunch? There are a few people who do that - regardless if it's work or school.

Know How you feel , Thankfully , School here finishes at 2pm so I have the Whole Afternoon with My Cheeko Baby :)

My husband has been a teacher for six years. I assure you he dreads the oncoming school year (or even Mondays) with the same gusto as the students. He also strongly looks forward to spring and summer break! This year he has changed to being the computer systems manager and it will be interesting to see how it works out.

Actually I was just talking to Conner yesterday about this (he turned 11 yesterday :D)
He's kind of a picky eater and after reading thru a magazine it gave me some great ideas. This year we're going to BOTH sit down and plan his breakfast/lunch/after-school snacks using recipes in the magazine for ideas, he was really excited when I showed him some pics of the recipes which also happen to be healthy too. I'm actually looking forward to this (but not the $$$ for new clothes and school supplies)

One more year until I get my 2pm home! WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!

I am sooo excited! But the thing is I will probably be working from 2pm-7pm :( ! I had to be an overachiever :p...

@wharfrat: LUCKY CONNER. I have to eat school lunch...I basically starve myself there though:). If only my mom weren't so lazy! Well tell Conner a very happy b-day from me. My mom is a coupons when she has to(she never has to), but back to school she goes all out. We probably got all our supplies $10 under. I already have a hoard of clothes...IIf i get any more my drawers will burst off (they already can't close)

Pookamama: I knew there had to be more behind that I want to be here everyday :p, school hasn't started yet and I am already looking forward to break!!!

School and college will be too far, actually, i may go to another state for vet school (i know it is too early to be planning...or is it?)

Sarah, here's a link to the grocery store magazine, they don't have the newest online yet (August issue) but it will give you some ideas of what I'm talking about :) )

I'm sending my two oldest to school, the oldest to second and the next to kindy. It will be so strange having them gone. We homeschooled this year. It was a great year, but it's been made abundantly clear that my eldest is an extreme extrovert and he could use a few more buddies. So we're giving school a shot. I still haven't done my school shopping for them yet.

Oh!

My bestest friend ever was homeschooled until sixth grade. She id very brilliant! Very very very very intelligent, and she said that school is a lot harder than homeschooling. She said that the textbooks are much more fun, and that the schedule is quite a bit loser while she was homeschooling. However, she stated very clearly it was the best decision she has made on her own terms, because she got to meet a lot of people who are like her.

If your son is an extrovert he will be just fine. I bet he will refuse to be homeschooled again! I think it was smart to put him in school in second and not later on when a teen is all concerned about how they look to the rest of the world. WARNING: your house may soon be swarmed by very loud little running boys.

@Wharfrat: boy aren't you all out Texas? That's great, show some state and country pride! Amazing food ideas. Always look so easy in the pictures...I am gonna go and heat my frozen mac and cheese now...(I have to take about half, wash out the cheese and then heat it and serve it to Sarah...you eat most of my food birdie)

One word: f-a-i-l (so there is no misunderstanding, I am the one failing, not you, your awesome!)

I LOVE SCHOOL !!!!!

I'm dreading going back to school as well. I am quite enjoying being home with my birdies. Including this fall semester I only have 3 semesters left!!!! (it's been a very long road for me. I've been in college since the fall of 2007. I started out at community college before transferring to a university. This past spring semester was my first.)

My cousin (who loves my birds... only Spooky returns the love and affection) is starting her first semester at Kutztown University and it looking forward to it, but kind of scared. I was looking forward to her attending the same school that I do, but in the end she decided on Kutztown. :'( Now instead of me making the 45 minute ride to her house, she'll be two hours away! It would've been amazing if she attended my school, she'd live on campus and only be 10 minutes away from me! That is what I'm not looking forward to. She's the sister I never had and shares my love of birds. She never had any of her own because she was planning on going away to college whereas I live at home and commute to school.

I always include the birds in whatever assignment I'm doing unless it's studying. Studying with a bird constantly preening your hair or nibbling on your ear is quite distracting.

That is also why Kayak is banned from studying with me... she LOVES to shred paper.

My birds, myself and my almost 7 year old can't wait!!! My son is bored with summer and wants to be a big 1st grader. Mommy will just have one kid (19 months) in the house most of the day and the birds will get more one on one time during nap time, which they've been missing. And hopefully mama will get more quiet time;) I like to let the birds out and take a nap on the couch, except when I wake up to a bird chewing on my toes or eye lids!!! lol

@Wharfrat: boy aren't you all out Texas?

That would be an understatement :D Texas born & raised, left Texas twice, both times BAD things happened!! This will give y'all an idea...my (and Conner's) bathroom LOL

*laughs* Oh, how true! I'm modifying my office to make it more 'bird friendly' and one of the things I'm adding is a very thick sheet of plastic over my bookcase. Way too many textbooks there to be destroyed!

Well I'm still young to have kids but out of school but working so I really can't help. So best of luck to you all.

Sarah is phobic and if she wasn't she would have my textbook and fingers in her beak in no time. I go to the basement where her screams are quieter, just about as loud as a police siren. Once she gets used to her perch I would love if she could come in my room and chill on the perch while I work. Once she did chew up my math homework that flew on the floor when a fan came on (really high celings no worries Sarah). She ran down and since it was white from back my dad thought it was copy paper and let her shred it. Since my math teacher is friendly I showed her the shreds and said, my bird chewed up my homework, and she said, what did it not eat it, and I said, no shes much too picky for that!

well she laughed gave me another sheet that I finished in homeroom and lunch. All's well that ends well.

@luvmytoo: I have to admit when my neighbors play basketball outside it can get Sarah really hyped up...but they do it during school anyway...

@evasta: Yup all kids LOVE school when they are in the first grade, the novelty wear off at about fourth grade! Usually...

School is not starting until early September for me and everyone here :D
So I still have a whole month left from summer ^_^
