Scented wax warmers??

I know we can't burn candles because of the wick, but what about just a wax warmer? We received one as a gift and I wanna find out if we can use it first. There is no smoke that emits from it. It just melts down scented wax and smells nice. Not over powering. But what's your opinion on this?

Im sure some people are going to say no way, I use them and have had no problem. I dont put over powering scents in mine, and have the closest one to the bird is in the kitchen and she is in the living room.

Any scented product is considered suspect. It's not so much the wick in a scented candle, it's that problems were reported with some scented candles.

Personally I don't use anything like that right where the birds are, but I don't sweat it too much elsewhere in the house.

Debsflock is correct the only wick that is problematic are the ones with the metal sometimes lead centers. Cotton wicks do not pose a problem. However some of the wax in candles do contain dangerous chemicals. My vet & breeder do say that soy candles are safe. I burn these alot in the house. I do not burn them in close proximity to my birds but I do burn alot of them throughout the house. I also burn other candles which are not too highly scented. I always check out the wicks, my friend sells partylite and they seem to be very good candles, they burn very clean and in fact the wax will wash off with soap and water. I would use common sense and perhaps use soy wax melts.

It's the wciks that create sut that are the culprits, as well as anything with "fragrance" in it (perfumes, scented oils, candles, etc) but I use the scented wax warmers too lol no problem at all, in the same room

Everyone who has listed cautionary info is correct. In addition to what MaraWentz stated concerning fragrance I'd like to remind everyone that birds have very delicate respiratory systems and just because we may use scented candles, perfumes and such and not see our birds drop out of the air does not mean they are safe for use around out babies. Think about the long term effects of the products we use. People are still dying from asbestos many years after exposure but no one ever died on the spot during their initial exposure!

I've used candles and the scented wax melters in my house without any problem. My birds are at the opposite end of the house from where we burn the candles. The room they're in sometimes smells like straight up bird even after cages get scrubbed :X but it's ok because I love them. It's better than smelling like litter box... or tuna like the cat sitting next to me reeks of.

If you use scented candles/scentsy's and say your birds haven't had any problems that is all well and good until your much loved bird is dead. Will you wonder if you did everything to keep it healthy? Scented wax puts out a toxic fumes that is harmful to birds. It may not cause them to drop out of the air but it will harm them over time. If you're willing to take the risk that is up to you. I am not willing to risk shortening my babies lives if I am able to prevent it. Do I think there is an issue burning a scented candle/scentsy in another room? No, but I most certainly wouldn't do it near them.

It's just like the Teflon/PTFE issue! There are still people here in this forum that use it and say they haven't had any problems while others have had their birds drop to the bottom of the cage. We know it's not bird safe but some still use it!

Do I want to risk it if I don't have to? No! We all make our choices. I will not burn candles that are not Soy or Beeswax in my house!

Think about how asbestos effects the human lungs. You don't immediately see the problems until later in life. Suddenly you can't breath. Will this happen to your birds due to scented wax???

Personally, I like to err on the side of caution. I don't use any candles or warmers in my house. Better safe than sorry I think.

I have recently discoverd that the wax you choose for your warmers makes a difference.......We have a citron cockatoo ..I use my warmer on a daily basis an have always used scentsy and other brands, until I discovered it was irratating his skin and he began to pluck ...not good! So I did my research and found an all natural soy/coconut based wax that is not only pet friendly but also kid friendly and Eco friendly, theres no "warnings" with this product so you can feel totally comfortable using it............since switching his feathers are coming back in and he's alot happier now. So I decided to become a consultant for the company...why not right! I dont use any kind of candles. I boil water with cinnamon, or orange peels, ginger and lemon,. or i bake cookies.

I use the warmers and have had no problems. I don't burn anything, if u burn any candle it is putting off stuff that is harmful. He is my opinion on the smells that people say harm the birds, most or some wax tarts have natural oils in them to make them sell. So it comes from an orange an herb something, if that hurts they bird they u better not feed them an orange or herbs either. I try to buy the natural 1's to be safe but out in the wild things smell!!!!!! They do not live in a bubble. I have air purifiers in my house, fans all that. I don't think a wax tart is any harm.
