So I thought I would share this terrifying experience...as well as put it out there that when in an emergency it is in your best interest to listen to your superiors.
Tonight I was at a friends apartment when a resident of my dorm building called and told myself and another Resident assistant that the dorm was on lock down... Well we got in the car rushed to the school. We called everyone we knew who would know what was going on. No one knew. We ran into University Police who informed us that the building was on lock down and that he wanted us to go to our rooms and let our residents know to lock themselves in there rooms and dont answer the door for anyone. Apparently Someone had been shot at by someone in the army who was looking for someone whos name started with a "K" and the shooter was planning to come to the dorm looking for her. It was said that this man had night visoon goggles and a sniper rifle....
We were freaked. We went to another Resident assistants room and locked ourselves in. While we were under lock down we could hear girls from the hall going in and out of the rooms. We yelled at them to get in the rooms. they still kept leaving... We got the call from our superior saying the coast was clear.
The apparent shooter was not real. It was a false alarm...Apparently the guy who was "shot at" made it all up.... He is under police custody. The "K" girl was real though...She lives in my hall...University Police came to talk to her when all was clear...
I just was to stress the importance of emergency procedures. They are in place for a reason. If this was a real situation those girls who didnt stay in their rooms could have put themselves in a lot of danger.
Not gunna lie...it was a pretty scary night...
