Scared for my daughter...

Victoria, we will definitely look into her gluten intake as well. That must be terrifying for your Mom when she locks up all over, I can't even imagine:(

Thank you Wendy for the name of that virus, I am going to have Britty ask if they can test for that today. it is the right season, from what I was reading. It is a shame that there is nothing that can be done about it, but it would just be good to know.

Allee & Stephen, Thank you guys for the well wishes:) And Stephen, she knows now that she better not keep me in the dark again!

Your welcome, and I hope they get to the bottom of this and fast. I don't know why the cdc says adults will have a less severe case than a child would get because virus' are known to mutate, and if a person child or adult has a an already compromised respiratory system I dont see how the virus knows the difference. The bottom line is our immune systems are all compromised from pollution etc., so you may want to look into ways to build her immune system. Vit d3, nutribiotics, as well as natural breathing treatments to help her lungs while you are waiting for a diagnosis.

Terry - my daughter was 36. In my 50s my doctors started suspecting a wheat allergy with me.
I will have her ask them today at her appt. to see what they think. She is 28. It is so odd how we can suddenly become allergic to things we didn't used to be. It is just something I hadn't really thought about, but could definitely be a new allergy of some kind for her.

I had no breathing issues whatsoever until I was in my mid to late 30's, allergies and intolerance of certain things has grown worse over time. Finding your triggers can be one of the most drawn out frustrating things and doctors are no help in this department. They never seem to want to even suggest that what we eat could cause or contribute to the issue.

I never had a doc ask me what foods I was eating and then in my late thirties I did a 21 day water fast, no food whatsoever only distilled water.
I had previously water fasted for 5 and 10 day runs periodically for many years but wanted to go longer. Fasts are safe IF you know what you are doing, what I found was I didn't use my inhaler at all and my sinus drainage, excessive mucus completely went away. Now obviously I knew I couldn't go without food permanently but it was the first time I understood that what I was eating could and did contribute to my symptoms.

There are less drastic ways to determine triggers such as mono eating to establish a baseline. You slowly add different foods and keep written notes on any changes.

Foods that have been shown to help most asthmatics... apples at least 5 per week or more, carrots, cantaloupe, warm lemon water, garlic, ginger and believe it or not caffeine.

Once she is stable again, I would recommend what people call an elimination diet. It is tedious, and boring, but worth it in the long run.

Day one, just have water, and one thing you suspect is safe. A sweet potato for example, or a white potato. Add only salt, no butter or cheese. If that goes okay, the next day have that same thing and add one more item. Steamed carrots maybe. repeat, adding one item at a time, and pay close attention.

I have had to do this several times, and do it pretty much instinctually after a new allergy pops up. I start with toast, as I know gluten and my body are fine. Then toast with honey. Etc., etc.

Also, what maintenance medications is she on for her asthma? I take two, every day - Singulair (generic), and an Advair inhaler as well as other stuff for allergies. Because of that, I literally cannot remember the last time I needed my inhaler, which is a great feeling!

I am so sorry about what you and your daughter have been going through! I hope she hears some better news soon and that eventually things calm down and she starts to feel better, and same for you as well. Everyone here has such wonderful knowledge and suggestions, it's absolutely amazing.

I hope that the doctors get to the bottom of the issue quickly for both your sakes!

I'm glad your daughter is doing better and I do hope they find the underlying cause.

That's so frustrating that they don't know what's causing this :( I hope they get it figured out soon! How is Britty doing today?

Britty sent me messages on FB yesterday, she has completely lost her voice now from the coughing, I assume:( She went to the research section of the hospital for her appt., and they got her an appt. with a new family doctor who is going to refer her to some specialists. Her current Dr. refuses to. She is on no maintenance, just has her inhaler, as until the last couple of months, that was enough:(

Thanks everyone again for all your help and advice...I knew I was coming to the right place for help!!!!

Yes, those late allergies can be insane. I developed an allergy to several fruits somewhere in my early 20's, and only discovered it while eating a bunch of black cherries one day and my throat began to close. VERY close call.

Are you still allergic to those fruits? What kinds are you allergic to? That is quite scary:(

Terry, good to hear the update. I'm so glad she was able to get a new doctor. I don't know why the other one refused the steps that are now necessary. Good that she has an appointment and things are moving forward. I believe now she will get the help she needs. Britty is still in my thoughts and prayers. :)

I'm so glad that Britty's getting another doctor as well as a specialist. As Julie said, this will probably be the thing to shed light on the real cause. I so hope she gets her answers, soon.

As for my allergies, yes, I'm definitely still allergic. To quite a few, in fact. The ones that have the quickest effect are plums and cherries. Plums were my favorite fruits, so that one hurts. I can only get away with one bite. Two would put me over the edge. Smh.

Yikes, Stephen, that is no fun:(
Do you feed those things to Bixby and Maya? If so, do they enjoy savouring them in front of you?

Yes and indubitably yes! Bixby has even been known to throw a juicy piece of plum my way. Smh. So wrong.

Indubitably...man, I love that word!

Bixby is just trying to share, Dad:)

Prayers your way for your daughter and your family. I know how stressful it can be when your children are sick...to bad we as parents can't take the illness for them. My son (27) just recently had to go to the ER for breathing/coughing...luckily he just has bronchitis. I hope they can get to the bottom of your daughter's problem quickly. Hang in there...it will all work out.

Her current dr refuses to refer her to specialists????? What in the world?! [emoji35][emoji35] I hope her new dr and those specialists can figure something out-- this is ridiculous that she's not on any maintenance for the time being....

I'm praying she gets some answers soon [emoji173]️

Luckily her boss has given her as much time off from work as is needed, so she can just rest until someone figures this out:) she is doing a little better as far as her breathing today.

I'm sorry Britty is still waiting for answers. I'm glad her boss is being reasonable. I hope they get this figured out soon. Many hugs and well wishes to you both.

I'm so glad that Britty's boss is working with her on this. At least that's one thing less for her to worry about.

When is her appointment with the new family doctor? I hope she can get a referral to a specialist soon.
