How do we know who really is selling parrots an who take your money an run? I have been scammed once from fb breeder an so scared it's gonna happen again .I been looking for a grey the lady on FB wants 900? The pet store wants 8,500 🫢 an the owner of the pet store said that's how you know it's a scam no one is going to sale you a grey for 900?. I'm a Amazon mom he's 48 an awesome but I want a grey but I think 9000 is outrageous? I need some advice?

The over the top outrageously priced breeder in my area is asking 7500 for baby CAGs right now.
My thing is I have to meet the bird. If the price is too good I will drive or fly to see/meet. If I decide to take the bird it will fly back in it's own purchased seat and carrier. Right beside me

Fb is full of scams like this. $900 is way too cheap and is a major red flag, as are sites where they all already have names, we ban them from the forums all the time. And if the website makes any reference to selling parrot eggs they’re banned before they can even blink!!

I wonder how many of these $7500+ babies end up rehomed in a few years for almost nothing? I think some people think that if they pay $$$$ for a hand fed baby parrot it will be the perfect YouTube parrot with little effort. Then puberty hits and off to the rescue they go!

For perspective on how much stuff costs nowadays, my recent dental work cost me $35,000 and that was 25% off! A new pickup truck costs about $70,000 for a half ton Silverado. Here in Maine, it now costs about $300 per square foot to put a master suite addition on a house. A three bedroom one bath 1500sf starter home is about $400,000.
A full facelift costs $20,000-60,000 (I know someone).
$7500 for a baby African grey that will live 50+ years isn't that bad.

I have to say I "rescued" Gracie from a flipper several years ago @ 800.00. I considered that outrageous but couldn't walk away and leave her there. Now some days dealing with her I have to wonder about my sanity.
I 'm just joking

I really feel that is why you find so many "young" parrots being sold and rehomed. People watch Utube, TikTok, and Facebook videos and think cool I want that. They have very little if any idea what time and expense it takes to properly provide for and nourish even a small parrot. They buy a baby and maybe do okay until puberty. Then it's "I can't deal with this, or I don't have time. Then the bird is rehomed or worse.
