I was sitting on the couch last night and I was snacking on sunchips. I kept holding one up and showing it to her (even though she has never had sunchips before) as she was on top of her cage. Hubby was reminding me that if I give her treats now she won't want to go back into her cage...I replied that I wasn't giving her treats because she wouldn't fly to me anyway....WRONG!!! LOL She flew in and landed right beside me on the couch!!!:D Now, since I never expected her to do this I did give her a couple pieces of sunchips, and I know they have too much salt but under the circumstances I couldn't not give her one. I asked my husband to go to the kitchen and get her no salt no butter popcorn and then I gave that to her instead. She stayed by me for 10 or 15 minutes!! I was sooo excited!! I did not try to get her to step up on my arm or anything since that seems to be a huge trigger point for her (she hates hands). I'm continuing to take it slow and letting her come to me. And she was still a good girl and went back into her cage on her own. So, just had to share...here's a couple pics...oops...can't attach pics...says I've exceeded my limit. Pics possibly to come later...

Hahaha amazons are pigs. I bet sun chips motivated her to be your BFF until the chips went up:D But whatever it takes for her to start trusting and enjoying you more. A few bites of a salty snack won't hurt her, but you were right to get the bird friendly popcorn if you wanted her to stick around a while. Zons are notorious for picking up a junk food habit and refusing to eat healthy food.

You should get a photo bucket account (free to sign up) and post pics through that:D

Thanks...yes she is a pig and it is difficult to get her to eat anything "healthy". I signed up for a photobucket account but how do I get the pics from there to here?

Nice she trusts you! I love how birds look at something they haven't seen before, camera on them always interesting, I make mine flash some for Jasper he did several poses for the coursity of what it is was, then I slowed the light down, then speed it up lol, he was being entertained! BTW I didn't flash in his eyes lol.

Thanks...usually I have to take SEVERAL pics of her before I get a good one, and this time hubby was taking the pic so maybe she poses for him better..lol. The first one he took I deleted...I looked scared to death..lol. I really didn't expect her to come to me!

Yeah, I kinda think a bird is sometimes a cat, they always love something different to play with, or even so another person such as your hubby, because Jasper won't let my other half touch him just yet, but he will try to step on on him than me now... Which is shocking, I had him since last friday. So he showing some personality and mood changes now. When did you get Sassy?

Amazons being pigs, that's no lie. Buddy pitches a fit if you are eating and he is not. I love that she came to the couch to visit you. Will she take food from you?

And for everyone else, do your amazons throw a fit for food? He starts shrieking.

ChuChu wakes up wanting his toast. I never eat toast so here in Mexico you can buy toasted bread in a loaf. It's very dry and hard and even the microwave can't soften it. I tried it on this green monster and he threw it back at me so off I went to buy a toaster. Now he gets his piece of toast each morning warm, just how he likes it. I know when he's finished with the toast as he starts calling for his fresh food bowl with blueberries, apple, green beans and birdie mash. I'm house sitting for three months for three dogs, a canary, and I've moved in with my seven cockatiels and the wondrous ChuChu. It's like feeding time at a zoo here with everyone wanting their food all at the same time and letting me know about it. Great fun.

Careful with the toast every morning you may make him over weight or he may start being picky lol. He sounds sweet, do you take him everywhere with you?

Haven't seen Jasper do it anymore, expcept the other other day he threw food bowl over. Now he eats pellets, with very little seeds, and he eays it all.! Carrot is his favorite veggie, I just found out how to get him to eat a banana, is to sit and eat with him. Eat the same fruits u would eat daily and veggies and let him watch you eat it, more than likely he will want to eat what your eating. I advoid salty and junk food, and give him a few peanuts and almonds for his treats. He hates to open the almond so I baby him and open them for him hehe. Fresh veggies and fruits are always good to give when your eating them. :-D :green:

One thing I love about Mexico is it's "Live and Let Live" attitude. They make no rules for how you live your life. Restaurants allow well behaved pets on the patios and in stores if carried or in the basket. No leash laws allow dogs to romp at the lake shore and in the parks. Some of us love it and some abhor it. Some can adapt to the culture and some return to the States. ChuChu rides my scooter in a pet carrier bag and I carry a PVC Tstand. Nothing scares him and he's friendly to everyone in fact he loves meeting new people and wants to be picked up. I have to warn people about glasses and jewelry which is a good deterrant. When he gets wound up, a nut in the shell usually calms and distracts him so I keep them in a pocket. I've seen several African Grays out and maybe a macaw or two, but I don't know any who arrive on a scooter.

Yes, she will take food from me...or anyone for that matter...lol. She doesn't like fruits/veggies much...still working on that. Chico doesn't like them either.
