Yellow Shoulder Amazon, Salty
Salty fell off his chain that hangs from the ceiling, and apparently hit his head on the way down. This was around 3 or so. When I got home at 6 , Geri had put him back into his cage for awhile already. My clue that something was really wrong was that he wouldn't take his 'hello' pine nut, nor a crumbled up one. He just wouldn't open his beak to take it. I called our vet, an avian certified one and they took him on an emergency basis (I love her and they love Salty there) . ER exam showed no broken bones, no cuts or bleeding but a bump just past his nares. Salty was sleepy both home and at the dr's, which is also highly unusual. So I asked the doc what would she do, she said let us keep him overnight, xray him, give him some pain meds, some steroid to get any swelling down, some food in him and observe him overnight. So that's where he is. Honestly both Geri and I are a mess right now. Please ,any prayers, good thoughts from our friends here on the forum for our Salty boy will be really appreciated . Can't type more, my eyes are leaking too much.

Sending happy thought and praying for you all. I'm sorry to hear that this happened and I know tonight is going to be a very long night but hang in there.

Al, I'm so sorry to hear that Salty was hurt! You acted swiftly and it sounds like he is in good hands. Sometimes after a hard fall it can take them several hours or even a day to shake it off and return to normal. Hopefully that's the case here and Salty will be back to his usual self before you know it.

Keeping Salty, you and Geri in my thoughts and prayers. Please update us as soon as you can. Salty is a beloved member of our community and we're all worrying with you.

Sending prayers for Salty and a hug for you and Geri. Hang in there, he is in the best place and receiving great care. Very best wishes from Plum and K.

Poor Salty! I'm glad you were able to get him in quickly. I hope you were able to get some rest last night and that he will be home soon.

Oh no...not Salty...everybody loves Salty. It sounds like he is getting prompt and proper care, and it's just a matter of waiting for the vet to say he's fine. I hope the call comes soon.

Thanks everyone. A very bad, sleepless night, and more to go until 11AM, when the vet opens. It was hard to drive into work this AM, thru the bleary eyes. I will update as I get new info. Again thanks for the prayers and good thoughts - if nothing else I need them.
