Salsa and Maynard interacting

They seem to like each other. You can see how they want to regurg for one another. Then Maynard, who's about half Salsa's size, tries to assert his authority by trying to beak wrestle Sals, then pecking him on the head. Maynard often doesn't behave with good sense. What can I say...

awwww, macaws are so cute! I love how they randomly spread their wings, is there a reason why they do that? When I was at the Henry Doorly zoo a few years ago the scarlet's kept spreading their wings the same way.

There can be various reasons why they spread their wings. It really depends upon the particular situation. In the case of Sals and Mayn in the video they were just showing off to one another. It means something like: "That's right! I'm a magnificently beautiful Macaw!!!" Plus, Salsa is trained to spread his wings as a trick and he just loves doing it to impress people (as well as other birds)

On the wing thing, mine do it too for various reasons, sadly I think most of the time its a "I'm bigger than you" thing. :52: Even after all this time, Miri still tries to challenge Rea. Rea tolerates alot but only so much, Rea is definitely the bigger of the 2 and once "riled" will make sure Miri knows who the "boss" is. It's so much fun playing referee when that happens I sure hope they get over it, I don't expect them to ever get along with the Zon's though sadly.

Thanks! It seems like it's always the smallest members of a group (like Maynard or Miri) who have the attitude issues.

Maynard won't try to challenge Zaf at all! When they're both on the floor Zaf always charges at him. Maynard runs from Zaf as fast as he can, all the while screaming for his life . Salsa just hasn't shown little Maynard who's boss between the two yet

My take on it is that Salsa would be friends with any of my others (even Zaf). But he's sure not going to kowtow to another bird. And Maynard, at least, feels that Salsa should bow to him. That's just not gonna happen!

And yeah, they probably were... Salsa is always pinning his eyes for one reason or another it seems
