My little Meyers will do anything for safflower seeds. She also loves to forage and have found many places in her cage to hide these little seeds to keep her busy.

I probably hide about 10 in her cage and she has so much fun finding them, but I don’t want her to gain weight as well.

How much is too much safflower?

Safflower forms the basis of many seed mixes. As far as I know, they have less fat than sunflower but are still fairly calorie intense. They are an excellent treat and reward due to small size.

I’m just wondering if 10 a day is too much for a Meyers. Or if I should find an alternative for her to forage for.

Maybe if you ask the question in the Poicephalus section a Meyers owner may assist. Sorry that I do not know anything about Meyers. However, as Scott stated, safflower seeds are 'treats' so I would suggest hiding another favourite item of food. Try 5 seeds and 5 other items. If you are sticking to the 10 item rule of course. My motto - everything (healthy food of course) in moderation. A varied diet is healthy in all species.

My Pineapple would probably do handstands to get to his safflower seeds. He gets no sunflower seeds but the safflower he gets frequently since they are so small compared to sunflower. Those seeds are a mix with many other good items in the bag.
But he does get other foods such as chop and fruits.
