I'm not sure if this is the right spot to post this so let me know if there's somewhere better for it!

My GCC is about to finish quarantine and be brought into the living room where I have another cage with my budgie in it. The only place for the GCCs new cage is right next to the budgies, to fit them in the cages will have to be right next to each other. I'm worried that because the GCC is bigger/stronger than the budgie it could injure her through the bars.

I was thinking I could put something between the cages but I don't want to totally cut the birds off from each other because they talk to each other a lot and I like the idea of them keeping each other company when I'm out but I definitely don't want an injury.

Do you guys have any idea about what I can do? Is this something you would worry about?

Great advise and question above!

Thank-you, for following good quarantine procedures! Remember that you are going to need to practice an introduction period of working the two Parrots next to each other. Just going from in the same home to next to each other may be a bit quick.

As stated already, just butting the to cages next to each other is not a great idea. The distance is something that you need to look at. As one inch (25 mm) is as close as you would want the two cages. I believe that the spacing would want to be the longest leg reach, plus a safety margin.

And, anyway you have been looking for a reason to reposition everything in that room plus push a couple of things out, right! :D

Um I'd say just space, and GCCs don't normally pick on other birds, but they will attack if they feel threatened...just give em space for a while and they will probably be letting you know hey we wanna hang out.

Thanks for the advice guys! I'll see what I can do about creating some space between the cages! If I can't would there be anything you'd suggest to use as a barrier?

Also on the topic of slowly introducing, I'm planning to move the quarantine cage into the living room for a bit before moving them to adjacent cages and I've had the GCC coming into the living room on my shoulder every now and then so they can start to see each other :) What sort of timeline would you recommend for introducing them?

Back with an update! I've put the new cage in and set everything up, I managed to leave some room between the cages and it's going well!

What do you think? I'm planning on changing the perches out as soon as I can and I'm thinking I might put smoe more toys in too.
