Hi all!

Now that winter is here, I'm looking for recommendations for space heaters. I've read that ceramic heaters are safe, and have one that doesn't have any chemicals like PTFEs, as I checked with the manufacturer. But it's not in the store anymore, so I can't buy a second one. I would prefer something more stable and not like a radiator heater if possible, as I have other animals and it would be a fire hazard.

Because they are completely closed with no fan or vent, radiator style oil heaters are actually considered less of a fire hazard! I have dogs, little kids, etc cruising around the house and never have had any problems with my little oil heater. They are the safest in terms of being chemical free as well. They’re definitely the top space heater that I recommend for use around pets. Stability has never been a problem with my radiator style heater; I guess if you put it on a table or something maybe it could get knocked over? Mine sits on the floor and is super sturdy. I never worry about it tipping over. Hope you find something that works!

Would it matter what brand at that point? I emailed the Mainstays people for the heater I have now to double check to make sure that there were no pfas or ptfes.

To my knowledge, brand shouldn’t matter except for things like longevity, durability etc. Safety in terms of no PFA coatings etc. should be the same across the board for any radiator oil heater. Of course it’s always good to check with the manufacturer! That being said, with ANY heater it is usually recommended to run it on its highest setting outside or in a well- ventilated area for about an hour to burn off any residual factory chemicals.
