i need some kind of pait or way to tell if paint is bird safe. i am painting the table(base) for my play gym with in the week and i need a safe paint. thanks!
Very hard question to answer. I have use non toxic kiddie craft paints with no problem but did I just get lucky I don't know so I can't say to use it. I not had problems with the birds or my kids and when my kids were young they use to eat alot lol.
2 Budgies, 3 Cockatiels, 6 GCC'S, 2 Crimson Bellie Conures, 9 Sun Conures, 2 Major Mitchells, 12 Eclectus parrots of various ages, 2 BF Amazons, 2 Hahn's Macaw's, 1 Red Tail Black Too
Paints today don't have lead in it like the old days. But i would use a water based paint. But i am sure if you google you will find all the info you require. Then you can make up your own mind what to use.
Natural food colourings can also be used to stain the timber & is completely safe.
These day's its not really the paint itself, it's the ingredients that keep it flowable & transferable that are the hazards. Once dry, most are safe (most, not all)
thanks guys! i went today and bought some paint and started painting. i would use dye (what i am using to dye wood blocks for homemade toys) but it is a whole table i need to paint,so lol, that would be a lot of food dye lol. i bought glidden premium. there is no harmful things like lead or zinc. it is 50 VOC(i think that is pretty low because the can next to it was like 450 VOC lol) and it will have over 2 months to air out anyways. i went on their site too and found a msds sheet. i beleive it should be okay. it is not like the bird has acess to the paint anyways. the whole table will be covered by a plastic tray(ment to catch poop, but....serves to keep birds from eating paint in this case too). thanks guys!
