Big Bird _ Blue & Gold Macaw
Poor Big Bird wants to roost at the top of his cage every night. There is a bar that supports the cage that is his go to spot. Its really thin compared to the perches I have for him. I read that his talons should not go 50% around the perch. I am not sure if I wrap it he will even have enough room to get on it. Its really right at the top. Any suggestions ? What made me think of this is that cute return of the swing thread. That is so sweet.

Um I guess they call it roosting :54: I am still learning LOL

Christine, if the 'bar' is a dowel, I'd personally replace it with some natural hardwood (like dragonwood). You can pick a piece of dragonwood where he can comfortably roost on . :) Yes, it's called 'roosting' when they tuck themselves in for the night.

Its not a dowel its a metal bar that goes from one side to the other. Thought about cutting it but this is a huge cage. It actually looks like a support bar .

I am at work now but will take one tonight and post it. Not sure why I never thought about this until now LOL

Get a nice natural wood perch that is the appropriate diameter, and put it at the same height, and a few inches over from that spot. He should go to that.

Sounds like he's just going to the highest perching spot in the cage. Give him a more appropriate one, he'll probably use it.

Delfin doesn't roost in one spot. He has six, sometimes he roosts high and sometimes he roosts low. wherever he decides.
