Room air fresheners

Are glade solid air fresheners ok or will the fregrance bother my Macaw?
To answer you're question as stated: No, it will not likely "bother" your macaw. But there is a fair chance it would kill him... and that may "bother" you.
All those nice things that temporarily take away unpleasant odors in the home are most likely bad for people too!

anything like that will kill your parrot please get as much Imformation as you can there are so many things that can kill your bird if you have not done the research please please do most house hold cleaners will also kill them please be careful

Did you know they used to use canaries as poison gas detectors in the early mines due to their delicate respiratory system. Anything with a vapour is harmful to your bird even if it smells "nice" so if it makes you go hmmmmm get rid of it. I just recently purchased a hepa air filter system because i can't burn candles or spray nice smelly stuff anymore, this was the best route because I have a high traffic household and we have all sorts of smells going on (teenagers!). I witnessed a budgie die a few years ago due to it's chemical surroundings, it was a horrible sight. my friend had his cage in the kitchen which was filled with teflon cookware and she was a candle fanatic. she was abviously ingnorant to the fatal effect they would have on her bird, she was devestated but I had to scold her becasue she didn't do any research before she got him, so this beautiful little creature had to suffer a slow and painful death.

This is a good bit of information on cleaning. Thanks for the link. I use grapefruit seed oil. Does anyone know if candles made from soy way are OK? I know they burn pure so to speak but would not want to risk the use unless I was sure of the safety of using them.

I do not use it to clean the parrots cage or parrot living areas (we bought a special cleaner from the exotic bird store which is specially developed for cleaning bird cages and is safe) but I use Febreze on our couches and chairs which are near the areas where my parrot sometimes cohabitats with us. Product says its derived from corn and also implies that you would use it to clean up an area were a dog or cat would be sleeping.

so just so i'm clear.......what your saying is that it would be a bad idea for me to walk around the room waiving a can of lemon pledge?
Only if you think it would be a bad idea for a flea-circus trainer and ant farm raiser to go around their home spraying a can of Raid.
I would recommend NEVER use air fresheners anywhere near your bird. I had an African Grey for ten years without any health issues and i left her at my mom's place for a couple of weeks while I was out of town and when I got back she was spraying air fresher so thick that I was choking in the other room. When I took my bird back home, it immediately started to drip clear liquid from it's beak and within another 24 hours it was dead. DO NOT USE ANY SPRAYS OR AIR FRESHENERS OR PERFUMES OR ANY OF THAT STUFF IF YOU HAVE A BIRD!!!
