My pet old man haha. I've had Robin my beloved Red Bellied parrot ever since he was a weaned baby. I brought him home from a bird store in 1994!
Hard to believe it's been that long
So a little while ago, I told him happy birthday, and I PLANNED TO give him a few snuggles and take his picture to post. Didn't work out that way!
I thought by now he should have had plenty of sleep as I took his cover off. Usually I'll open his door, and have him come out. Instead, I reached in and petted him a little while he was still "in bed" (on his bed branch). Now Poichephalus parrots don't really show "obvious" body language before striking... Still, I did see a very slight lift of head feathers, and although his eyes didn't really pin, they just looked a bit mad in a way I can't explain. Subtle. He let me pet him for about 20 seconds then all of a sudden BAM!!! He latched onto my index finger! Top part went through my flesh, bottom mandible was on the nail, hanging on and grinding HARD! I had to take my other hand and pry him off, and trust me he was on there hard.
How dare I wake him up while he was sleeping in on his birthday! :52:
Honesty, besides waking him up and just going right in (I should have known), he also saw the phone, as I was going to take his birthday picture, and that was the last straw I guess. I will take pics when I'm home later and post it.
YAY!!! 20 YEAR OLD RED BELLIED PARROT!
