Sun Conure 2.5 years old
My hubs and I have a two year old Sun Conure, Skittles. We are planning to drive to W.VA to visit my grandparents from Houston, TX for Christmas this year. We will NOT board her, I cannot begin to fathom leaving her with someone she doesn't know for nearly two weeks. We are planning on bringing her along. We have travelled in the car with her previously and she does just fine, trouble is, that her normal cage is too big for the inside of our car and her last travel cage broke. Plus, she HATED that travel cage and likes to sit on my lap during travel. I think the last travel cage she had was too small and that is why she hated it. I would like to find something larger so there is space for her sleepy hut and a few favorite toys that can double as her cage set up when we arrive at our destination. I don't want it to be too large that we cannot easliy carry or place inside of our 4D sedan on a seat.

Any cage suggestions? I was looking at those adorable Featherstone Heights, but fear the cage may be too small.

While I've always traveled with my guys in either a van or double seated PU, I've always used a smaller flight cage, but without toys & used juicy fruits for moisture during travel, giving them water during stops. I did have a MBC get sick one time, but it was the first trip & I took someone's advice & covered the cage.....after that I've always made sure to raise the cages so the birds had full view of their indoor & outdoor surroundings...never another sick bird & some of these trips have been over a thousand miles at a time.....

I was having issues moving Conner from room to room, or outside with his large cage so I purchased a pet kennel cage which works great after I installed some toys and dishes. There were three sizes at the H.E.B. grocery store where my wife works and I picked the medium, I'm thinking the bars may be to open for a Sun Conure but Conner the Mitred Conure is a bit larger than yours if I'm not mistaken. The second picture is irrelevant however Conner seamed to want his picture taken while I was at my PC next to him, LOL. I went ahead and ordered a flight suit and a Aviator harness in hopes that'll make it easier to take him outside and perhaps short trips.

Nice cage choice Frisky, but mitreds are the second largest of the conures & I might worry about Skittles getting a head stuck or even catch a wing through those bars...a traveling bird could get a head or wing stuck, the vehicle go over a rough spot or need to make a sharp swerve/lane change, the bird lose its perch & possibly end up hanging itself, breaking a bone or dislocating a socket.....that's why I don't put toys in the cage while traveling...for night stops or end of trip stops, that's different.....

Sorry about that Clyde...I did know your name

Frisky - that cage is a too big for Skittles. She's rather small.
Ms. Kay - that may be perfect! The Featherstone Heights are considerably smaller and about $70. Thanks!
I'm not worried about how Skittles will do in the car, she quite enjoys the ride and is usually very curious. I'll get the cage sooner than later to get her comfy in it!

Many thanks y'all!
