Responsible parrot guardianship

Hello! I've joined this forum because I want to obtain a parrot but want to do so responsibly and thoughtfully ... I shared my home with a grey normal cockatiel, Romeo, for 17 years. He chose me in a pet and plant shop - I hadn't gone looking for a bird but had flirted with the idea prior to his finding me, and it seemed like fate when he called me to his cage with a wolf whistle and intense eye contact. We bonded right there in the pet store, before I even brought him home!! His friendship was the beginning of an intense love affair with all things birds, from companion birds to wild outdoor birds. He died suddenly (as birds so often do) this past March, and while my house isn't exactly quiet, I miss sharing it with a bird. But I'm interested in a larger parrot and have been researching along those lines. In addition to reading everything I can get my hands on, I think I should also be talking to "real life" parrot guardians, the kind who don't see their birds merely as show pieces but are actually deeply committed to their care and well-being ... in other words, the kind that can be found posting in forums! I hope to become an active, participating, contributing member of this community.

Happy to have another caring bird person like you join us. I must be so difficult to lose a bird you have had for a long time. Sending birdie hugs to you.
