Yellow-Naped Amazon, and two Peach Faced Lovebirds.
Let me start off saying that I know he needs to see a vet and I have every intention of taking him as I already made an appointment.

Jasper (Yellow Naped) has REALLY dry skin on his feet. One toe (and only this one) always gets irritated/swollen and sometimes bleeds. He's seen the vet before and they fixed it but I have no idea how? Anyone else experience this?

He's a rescued Amazon. The owners before me really mistreated this guy! :(

Thanks.:greenyellow:

Poor Guy,

No I haven't dealt with this but I have read that misting of warm water and aloe vera can help until he gets to see the vet. I wouldn't put anything else on it till the vet sees him as they are always putting their talons in their mouth.

Could you show us a picture of it?

Just wondering if it's bumblefoot or something.

Hope you can get him into the vets soon!

THANK YOU for rescuing this poor guy, Shelly!

Unfortunately there isn't much advice I can offer as I've never dealt with a situation like it. I'm glad to hear he'll be seen by a vet though. :) Sandy has given you some good advice.

I wish you the best of luck with him.

I put coconut oil (food grade) on all my birds feet. It works great to help soften and is ok to eat.

There is a ontiment that harrisons sells that is amazing! it is called heal-x and ive used it in situations just like this. It is completely safe and great and fixes these minor problems in no time. It is costly but a little goes a long way! This is what i use for all my guys feet if they come with dry and flakey feet:) usually it is not a worryment but the fact he is bleeding worries me slightly so a vet would be a great option as well and glad to ehar you have taken the apprioate steps!

I've been soaking his feet but, he sure freaks out! He's not really "friendly". He's a talker and interacts while within his cage but if you even lay a finger upon the cage he will try to rip it off, lol!

When I first got him, I was able to train him rather well. Even had him sitting on my lap and grooming himself. As soon as progress was made, I had a visit from my mom and he flew at her, bit her and he's never been "friendly" again. Sucks :(

Anyway, I will post a picture in the morning. It's dark out right now and I won't get a good shot.

First and foremost - a healthy diet! A healthy diet promotes healthy skin and feathers.

Second - baths.

Third - ointments. Natural or not as long as it's safe to ingest.
