We rescued an old Patagonian conure, he had no idea how to play but now he loves chewing his toys. It's just a case of leaving toys in the cage so they can get used to them. I sat and played picking at Archie's toys to show him what to do [emoji4]
Animals are like little angels sent to earth to teach us how to love
He also doesn't seem to cuddle or let us scratch his head. He steps up and will sit on our shoulder but that's it. Any chance that he will become more lovable after being with us a few months? We've only had him a week.
Thank you for your input. I had a lovebird that was so cuddly I guess I compare Ozzie to him and I should not do that. Bebe has been gone for 6 months and I still tear up when I think of him.
We have a GCC, and he was quite standoffish when he first came to us, but now cuddles with my Hubby every night. It took him awhile, but he came around.
As Nicky76 suggested, sometimes it does help to show them how to play with toys...we had to do that with a few of ours
I am so sorry for your loss of BeBe

I got an older white eyed conure years ago who didnt play with toys or allow any cuddles...it took him 6 months to allow head scratches but he did eventually become extremely affectionate...some birds are not into cuddles and head scratches so only time will tell but the fact that he sits on your shoulder already and steps up for you means he is interested in befriending you so you have made some good progress there...as to the toys I found that if you get cockatiel size toys and tease him with them and play with them in front of him you will find that he will get the idea and start to play himself...as soon as you find he is interested in toys you can introduce more beak and size appropriate toys to him. That said my Conure was never big into toys but he had a few favourites that he played with a lot and as they wore I would have to replace them with exactly the same toy or he was not interested... hope you get him playing with toys...Im in the same boat now with a WFA...so sorry you lost your Bebe...irs so hard when they pass... my Conure: Roger has also left now for Rainbow Bridge but they are never far away from us and fly with us always in our hearts. Congrats on your new addition to the family Conures are great characters
