Rescue center in NJ Wings of Hope: any info or reviews?

I have been looking for a bird rescue in NJ to adopt and volunteer. I found Wings of Hope online and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them?

My partner told me to watch out for scams regarding adoption fees with rescues and with anything online. If you have any recommendations or comments, I'd like to hear.

I don't know of them but know of another. Helping Wings in Blairstown NJ. I'm members with them on another forum. They seem to be great people and members who have visited with them have lots of great things to say. A Helping Wing tell Vikki that henpecked sent you.

I agree with Henpecked. A Helping Wing is the rescue I donate to monthly. The people there are wonderful & the birds are loved & well cared for.

I've contacted Wings of Hope more than once and never have received a reply. Once was to inquire about fostering and recently about possibly doing an educational event. So-- kind of off-putting.

I am also interested in reading reviews about various parrot rescues in New York and New Jersey.

My questions and concerns are if you need to re-home a parrot, what are their long term plans if the rescue can't afford or could not care for the parrots anymore? I would want to ensure that the rescues in their care are not euthanized. I feel this is a logical question if one is concerned about the future of their pet.

I apply for adoption at wing of hope in NJ. I pay application fee. I give reference for my avian vet.

After that I does not received any information about my adoption application.

I'm leary of any animal rescue that doesn't take the time to answer questions about animals they take in or give you the brush off. To me, if they don't answer your questions, that's an immediate red flag.

In fact, I've come across a place like that myself.

I have to revise my old post in this thread-- I submitted an application and paid the small fee and got a call really quickly after that (this is maybe 6 weeks ago now). They've all been amazing, happy to talk to you, super devoted, kind, helpful. I adopted the Nanday in my pic there from them a week and a half ago

I wanted to say thank you for posting this thread. My boyfriend needs to put two cockatiels up for adoption -- he's moving to a town in NJ with higher real estate prices, so he'll be in a smaller apartment and is concerned both about cage space as well as noise complaints from the neighbors.

The problem is that these birds were not hand-raised and are unusually loud and ill-tempered as a result -- they've been actively abusing and plucking out the feathers of his third bird, whom he plans to keep and put in a smaller cage that won't take up so much room -- and so we're concerned that literally no one will want to adopt them.

We'll be taking them to A Helping Wing. Thanks!

I "like" A Helping Wing on Facebook and they regularly post pics of available birds. My sister lives in Blairstown...and i'm always tempted to visit when i'm visiting her!!

A Helping Wing is an excellent rescue. Jeanne and John are both incredibly loving and dedicated and do a wonderful job with their rescues.

When choosing a rescue you should check to see if they are licensed/registered in the state they are in. There are a lot of nice people out there but if they are not running their rescue in the right way, "being nice" is not enough.
