Hi there
As some of you already know Iām a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.
Yesterday I saw a fledgling carrion crow walking in the middle of a very busy road in the rain, itās parents were distressed as the baby came within inches of being hit by several cars. Thankfully some drivers noticed the bird and slowed down to avoid killing it so I waited for a gap in the traffic and ran into the road to pick it up. I noticed the bird had a little blood on it but nothing too serious. I placed it at the base of a tree next to the road which was containing itās nest and parents. The fledgling stayed there for about 10-15 minutes before walking into the road again so I repeated the process several times.
I decided to leave the bird for a while and went home for a few hours but towards the end of the day I passed the road again to find the fledgling sitting next to the traffic. The bird was cold, wet and shivering so I took it home. Iāve fed the bird and cleaned itās minor wounds but Iām not sure what to do nowā¦Here are my choices:
1) Return the bird to its parents by the road but risk it getting injured, killed or causing an accident.
2) Feed and raise the bird myself and release it when itās able to fly. Hand raising a wild bird isnāt usually in its best interests because it can get used to humans and may not learn to forage and care for itself correctly.
What do you guys think? Opinions please!
