Green-cheeked Conure "Skittles" - now, sadly gone from my life
Blue-Crowned Conure "Tequila"
African Grey "Reno" - sadly, now gone from my life
The other night, my wife & I were having a quiet evening, and suddenly she nudged me, and nodded toward our CAG Reno's cage.
There he was, with his beak through the bars, unlatching the lock on his cage door. The latch has a locking function, too, which was engaged...but he's already figured that out, too!
Last night, he did it again, with more creativity this time. He not only unlocked & unlatched his door, he grabbed onto the bars over the door & pushed the door open with his feet. Then, he pulled it closed again, went back to the latch, and closed & locked it again. He continued doing this, over and over, swinging the door far enough open to get it to stay securely lodged against the back of the couch, so he could come & go as he liked, without the door swinging open & closed until HE wanted it so!
Over the past few weeks, I've admonished my wife over not putting him away at night, as several times when I got up in the morning, he was out, happily sitting on the open door of his cage.
My wife, on the other hand, was adamant that she had, in fact, put him to bed & locked his cage door.
Well...mystery solved. We suspect now that he's been out often, & put himself away again, closing locking the door behind him whenever he felt like it. We figure his latest "demonstration" was just...showing off "See mommy? Look what I can do!"
Sneaky little guy, isn't he?? Scary smart, these guys!
