Percy, a 5yo BFA & Jack, a 8yo Budgie
I spent four backbreaking hours this morning tidying, picking up toys, cleaning & scrubbing Percy's cage, playgym and surrounds this morning. Within 15 minutes from getting it all set up, outfittefd with fresh clean toys and whatnot, master had shredded three popsicle sticks, made five poops, flung the remains of two corn-on-the-cob discs to the floor, created a delightful soup in his water bowl and scattered the entire contents of his toy basket around his playgym in joyful abandon. My sister chose this moment to pop in for tea and asked "don't you think you should clean up your bird's mess a bit?"

I asked him why he thought I did all the cleaning and he just laughed at me.

So, why exactly do we do it again? Speak up please, I am at ground level, on all fours, picking up the same doodoo from this morning and may be slightly hearing impaired ;) ;)

well, it would seem we are slaves to our fids.

I too, spent 3 hours yesterday, cleaning, tidying, scrubbin etc...

I had 5 cages(spares) to do which have been sitting in our soaker tub for over a month.

what I hate is the vacuuming, as quick as I can have the carpet clean, it's quite messy in under 1/2 an hour.

no body understands what it takes to keep a bird, unless they own one

Hahahahaha...I'll bet there r alot of us silently mumbling that sentiment this weekend. It's the price we pay for the tens or hundreds of thousands of hours of happiness they bring to our lives. I love (read sarcasm here) when Pritti stays up top, really still, head tilted down and watching the cleaning almost indignantly... Like he is thinking "Again! Why do u do this silly crazy thing to my digs. And don't rush, but hurry up, I have toys to play with and perches to stand on over there!!"

Whahaha!!! I'm sure that's exactly what they think! Mine also POUNCES into the clean cage the minute I bring it back in from outside and then lunges at and threatens all who want to add nonsence things like perches, toys or food bowls! "You've messed with my stuff long enough, human! Stand down!" LOL!

Ha Ha ,I saw this thread [and was looking for inspiration]. Todays my big clean 15 cages day LOL :)

I have been wondering the same thing for the past 5 hours as we do our weekly scrub down. I so needed a smile today and this thread did that!

Ugh! I feel your pain! Just as soon as I clean everything, she just goes and poops and makes a mess! I wonder how much it helps but I guess if we didn't, we would be buried in it!

I'm used to messes, I have three kids, and a messy husband. Those four make more of a mess than my Cockatiel any day, but for his size, he is messy. What can you do? All pets are messy in one way or another, so if you want to have kids, or an animal, you have to clean up after them.

I am teaching my kids to clean up after themselves, but it's a long and painful process.

For the "Pure unadulterated joy of it!" lol

Glad you feel that way! PM'ing you Percy's cage address so that you can stop by for some unadultered joy next weekend, ok?

Awww man! Shoot, I'll be at sea next weekend... Um, washing my hair and um, all the flights are booked and and and...

Tell Percy that I'll have to give him a rain check on that!!!!:D:D:D

This thread is useless without pictures!

Because I think parrots have a sense of humor. They do this on purpose and think its hilarious.
