Rehoming my 2 Caiques

If you didn't live so far away and if I had one more room to keep the caique's separate from my tiel, I would take them in a heart beat. This has to be heartbreaking for you. They are such cool birds with a high amount of energy and great personalities. I just love how they roll on their backs for tummy scritches. I wish you the best of luck finding a home for them.

Well in the meantime, I'm bringing the trouble maker with me around the house everywhere I go. She's gonna have me on her back every second. It's not too much fun for her as I'm not very exciting but that will have to do. Maybe then, when she's back to the bird room full of fun and play, she'll actually enjoy herself other than biting the Conures cage constantly. My husband is really against letting them go as they're so much fun and so good with us, so who knows, maybe it will work out after all. I'm not in a rush as long as I can keep everyone safe. If the right time/family comes along, I will see.....Although with my asking 1000 questions and wanting to see pictures of prospective people's bird area etc., it might take a while LOL.

I wish I had some sage advice or helpful suggestions regarding your dilemma. Sadly, I don't; however, I did want to take a moment to say how heartwarming it is see someone who cares so much and is so deeply involved with their pets. Too often (and this doesn't just mean birds) I'll hear someone almost cavalierly talking about "getting rid of" a pet. It's the sort of thing that pains me no end.

I wish you all the very best with whatever solution you find to be the most appropriate. And I thank you for being so dedicated and caring. It's very inspirational.

Thank you! I needed this! As the thought of it turns my stomach, I have to think about the safety of all the others. She is really a sweety, and I don't believe that she means to hurt necessarily, but she is very much dangerous for the little guys. The Black Headed is a people bird and no threat as long as the little ones are in their cages. But she likes to play "Caique" and wouldn't do well in a household without her kind, which is also why I would want them to remain together.

I put the Crimsons in the outside aviary on a sunny day and left heir cage door open (few weeks ago). I'm looking for the WBC and call her name. Her little head peeks out and she is in the nest box! I ask her to step up and come out, she obediently obliged. So i'm thinking that she is hormonal and want to nest? So I bought her a nest box and attach it to her cage. I was so excited thinking that all along that's all she wanted!

BUT NO. The Caiques play hide and seek in their box......and she still wants to destroy the Conures box and I swear she likes to drive them mad! LOL. The Conures do not seem to have much of a sense of humor these days!! If they only backed away, like the Lovebird does, it wouldn't be a problem. However, Conures are not the type to do so.....

A Caique is my moms dream bird. But we ended up with 2 Quaker Parrots and not 2 Caiques. Lol good luck in finding them their new forever home.

:green1:

Are you still looking for a home for them? I'd be interested in learning a bit more. :) We were just about to adopt another Caique from a local rescue, and let's just say - after being given the adoption contract to sign, we opted against completing the adoption. We'd need to seek prior approval before seeking veterinary care, as the parrot wouldn't legally belong to us - obtaining emergency care if needed would equal the bird being taken from us. Too bizarre for me!
