Hi i would like some help please i am getting a 4 year old Jardine male on monday:green1: he is feather plucked and a bit nippy his present owner has not spent much time with him of late my question is do i change his name so he does not have this conection from the past. I know he will need alot of love care and time to come around but would changing his name help or not any advice with this would be greatfuly recived thanks

Well I always looked at naming a bird was more for us than it is for them. I don't think they really relate to names one way or the other. But I'm no expert. To me, the best way to disassociate you from the past owner would be to take it slow and easy, but spend as much time as you can with him. But try not to over do it to where he starts to become clingy and not want to play on his own.

You really need to have him Vet checked as well to make sure there isn't other reasons why he's plucking other than bordom like mites.

When a parrot gets a new home and guardian it is a starting all over thing. Sometimes if there was behavior issues in the previous home the bird never goes back to them. I suggest you concentrate on your future with the bird and not be too concerned about what happened in the past. Vet visit most important so you know where to start with this bird. Good luck and please keep us informed of how things progress. :rainbow1:

aww I am so glad that you two have found each other :) How are things going now that you have had your bird for a while?

Awww, how sweet! I've been considering adopting, and my heart reaches out to some of the poor birdies that I see plucking (went to a parrot rescue, where there were a lot of parrots who had been neglected by previous owners). It makes me want to cry and snuggle them all. D:
