regurgitating!

sometimes when beau's eating something he really likes he does the head bobbing thing, i usually just distract him and say thankyou.
but today we were having a good ol' cuddle and he sat up and started head bobbing, then tried to open my mouth, i turned my head but he grabbed my chin with his beak and turned it back, anyway he threw up all over my neck!! he was definately aiming for my mouth though (shudders).
is that normal, he's never bought anything up before. eek xxx

Cal regurgitates on my hand now lol.

When she was little, she used to do it and then try to jam her beak into my mouth lol.

I just used to put my hand over my mouth when she started bobbing and praise her when a lil bit (she never gives lots lol!!!) went on my finger instead!

If the regurgitation was accompanied by head shaking or Beau seemingly not having any control, take him to the vet just to be sure!

If it's just because big birds bring up more "food" then that's fine haha!

he had been eating a lot LOL! he's never been that insistent before, he was really trying to prise my mouth open...i guess its nice to be loved!
i'm taking him to a new avian vet tomorrow, check up, nail trim and dna test...yikes! x

Yeah, once they twig where your mouth is then they want to help and get on in there at every opportunity!

I think it's so funny when Cal will share a cracker with me. I always offered her the opposite end because of contact with saliva etc and now she sits on my chest, I take a bite my end, she watches to make sure I have before she takes a bite....I wait for her, she waits for me....it really is the cutest thing ever how much they want to make sure you've had enough to eat.

Even more adorable with Cal because she's so very small and I'm so very big and she thinks I need nourishment hahaha!

my colleague who is an Avian vet says that regurgitating is a sign that they really like you - spin off of feeding young etc. However she says to discourage it, as it triggers high bonding behaviour and can result in problems down the road, besides the fact that it can be a tad messy and gross, it's also not good for the parrot to get into the habit, as they can cause ulceration to their esophagus and mouth due to continual exposure to the acids from their digestive tract. It becomes a habit.. and can be hard to correct, so best to redirect to toys etc. obviously sharing food is another thing all together.

funny it happened to me other day for first time he was sick on my hand hasnt happened since, but it was realy warm couldnt be good for them doing that alot

Its also a mating behavior!!! My macaw tries to feed me last night as well. Then he goes to try to feed the dogs. He would hump them too....the dogs don't like that at all...
