Red-tailed Black 'too

Hi all, its been a while! Still researching and such, and its possibly going to be months/a year or so before I'm ready to bring home a parrot as I am house-hunting atm, though my folks redid their outdoor aviary and now have finches, canaries and two turquoise parakeets to keep me busy along with the dogs while I am living at home.

In the meantime I've been keeping an eye on birds for sale, to get an idea of pricing and what species are actually available. This morning this stunner popped up...

Just weaned, male Red-tailed Black Cockatoo. What incredible, stunning birds they are, though I think they are a bit out of my ballpark. Talk about your dream bird!

Wondering if anyone on here has/has had one? There isn't a ton of information out there about them; I've seen them described as independent, cuddly, quiet, loud, gentle and all sorts!

Jeanne has one. They are much better behaved than the white toos. He has a very annoying high pitch scream though. Eats more seeds than most and has only bitten once. Which Jeanne admits was her fault since he was jealous and she wasn't paying attention since he usually is so good. He does this amusing head shake tail fan thing when he is excited.

These are endangered species which is why they are high price. I held both a male and female when I was in Australia. They were delightful, beautiful and very gentle. Cockatoos are very demanding of attention and need a lot of space as well as play time so only consider a cockatoo, my favorite birds by the way, if you have a lot of space and time. Because there are so few of these delightful birds in captivity, although delightful as potential pets, the should probably be kept primarily as breeders until they become well established.
