Any other Cherry Head owners on here? If so please post to me, I'm new and have inherited a Cherry Head Izzy whose original owner died, and she is mature and has a CA import band. We figure Izzy to be at least 20 and yes, she is healthy. I've paid for two avian vet checks in two years, full CBCs.
But I am noticing some strange behavior that may be Conure breeding season type stuff. She likes to go inside her happy hut and makes a little whiny crying noise like a baby crying or a whimpering puppy. She wiggles around in there doing it like she's settling in for the nite. So when its about dusk, I cover her cage and she seems to settle in better and be more quiet, but if I make noise after dusk near her cage, she gets louder like, hey can't you see I'm sleeping already? Its a buzzing type of whine.
But today she went into the hut in the mid afternoon and did the whiny thing, and then she stuck her butt up in the air and was flapping her "vent" thingy and making little whistling whiny sounds. Is that Conure mating behavior?
I have a female CAG 12 years, never did this stuff.
When her owner died two years ago, we put her into a breeding aviary my friend has, with a CH flock in hopes she would make babies but after two seasons and no eggs, she is back home with me. We decided she does not know shes a bird and is very imprinted on humans and real sweet. However, now all of a sudden into the hut she goes lol!
btw, I am not mistaking her noise for a conure squeal, I am very familiar with the yacking they do! LOL this is different.... thanks! annemarie
