Yesterday I tried giving Jasper a treat of some sweet potato baby food. He took a couple bites and was not interested. However my cat Oliver was. Today I warmed it up and again offered it, this time he ate alot of it. In the meantime Oliver knew what it was and wanted it and was begging. I had the webcam ready. I love his little "barks", he does that when he's excited or wants something.

Oliver is very cute. My cat is oddly vocal as well and has weird, unique sounds. Does Oliver by any chance try to do bird calls? I think that is Sadie's weirdest sound. I've never heard another cat do it. She sits in the windows and chatters to birds. If I could do video, I would show you because it's extremely bizarre!

As for eating weird things, she ate a Nutriberry last week and I think that's why she got sick with her IBD again.

Oh yeah.."birdbirdbirdbird!" He does that for birds..he "barks" at bugs. My apartment is always swarming with spiders..I know how very special spiders are and how needed in the ecosystem..but they aren't needed in my house..all I have to do is say "Oliver come get this spider" and he comes flying into the bathroom (where they usually are) looking around for them. This is also the cat that reacts to "Squirrel!"

Sadie likes to bat spiders around. It scares me though when it's one of those huge wolf spiders. So I end up smashing it with shoe and then she gets mad at me for killing her new toy.

They are always in my bathroom, too! There is not much worse than getting into the shower and then seeing some huge spider is in there with me! Somehow it's just worse when you are naked:eek:

Good to know I'm not the only one with a bird calling cat. The first time I heard it, it scared the heck out of me. First, I didn't know what it was. Then I thought something was wrong with her.

I wonder if you can teach Oliver to talk? My cat can say, "Hi" and "What?" I was wondering if I was going nutty when she started but then I saw a vet on Animal Planet who said some cats can learn one or a few words. This started of course because of the birds. We would all be taking turns saying, "Hi!" and one day when there was a pause Sadie said it.

Just my luck I would try to get him to talk and you wouldn't be able to hear him over Jasper lol

And if you're going to get a video of anything I'd love to see that. I've seen the ones on youtube, the compilation, "I love you", "Mama" that sort. Funny stuff.

lol! very funny hes so cute! my cat also calls to birds, i think its so they come closer so they can catch them :O

It may be hard to catch Sadie on film these days talking. When I had the 2 conures we had these routines. Bri would yell, "HHIIII!!!" and Rowdy would answer, "Hi!", then I'd say it and around and around we'd go. Then it would turn into, "What?" or "What what?" and around and around we'd go. So Sadie just got in on the action. But, Bri passed away and now the 3 birds are not on the same page.

Pete did learn to say hi, but he doesn't stop there. So he's saying, "Hi! Hello! Whatcha doin? Come here! I good boy!" and Rowdy just kind of looks at him, like, hey, can I get a word in here? Do you come up for air?

And Merlin rarely talks. She hasn't said hi yet. I've heard hello a couple of times. So she starts, but she does 30 imitations in a row. There are ringing bells, microwaves, fire alarm, ambulance, coos, clucks, whoops, her monster sounds, etc. So now both Pete and Rowdy are staring at her and have no idea what to think of her really, lol! Rowdy chirps at sounds Merlin makes that she likes, but she doesn't know how to imitate any of them back.

So Sadie is very confused by all this, lol!

Now it gets worse. I go in another room. Rowdy is doing her contact call, "Hey hey!" Pete is yelling, "Come here! Hurry! Be right back!" And Merlin is farting, shooting off laser guns and yelling, "Whoo!"

So I'm not sure we will ever all be on the same page again, lol! But, Sadie does say, "Hi!" or "What?" to me once in awhile.

ROFL! It sounds pretty crazy at your house. Jasper was doing his begging noise as a contact call but I've been whistling to him so he is moving more towards whistles. He still sounds frantic though, poor guy. He definately needs a little more "me" time to amuse himself.

Yes, it's confusing for me, too, lol! I can't figure out how to answer them all.

I guess when you have 2 or more birds that are close in age and the same kind of bird, like 2 conures, they learn a lot of the same things. But, when you bring in older birds, and different types, you don't know what you will get!

lol it sounds fun at your house, your neighbors must think your having a party lol! there probably getting jealous thinking about all the fun "wha - what! lasers! i wana go!"
