As I worked preparing dinner tonight, I hear a couple nice noises he makes to get my attention. Look over at the cage. He has finished his dinner, wiped his beak, unhooked the chain that holds the breeder door open during the day, closed the door and was sitting on his favorite sleeping swing asking nicely in his own special way for me to come put the cover on. Guess he was ready for bed a little early, it has been a pretty hectic day.

This kind of thing always amazes me. Hard to believe the cute little guy is so smart:07::green:

It amazed me with Smokey. at 10pm,almost on the dot,no matter what season it was,and almost every night, she would say "good night...good night" and go into her house.. If I dawdled in securing her and covering her house, she would make this ear piercing, high pitched chirp to get my attention.
Intelligent? you tell me!

Aww how sweet... you guys must tell me your secrets :)
Gracie is like that child that you just can't get to go to bed no matter what
Momm.. need a glass of water...
Momm... it's too dark
Momm... i hafta go potty

I'm that mean ole mama that ignores her cries for 15 minutes each night until finally ... she goes down.

Have you a bedtime routine? We sing and 'Happy Birthday' is one cos I don't know Plums hatch day so he gets it every day LOL. It's a comfort and it's routine and when it's done and he has told hubby all about his day it's "see you later, go bubbyes". Silence! :)

Our DYH Amazon has his evening route that raps-up between 9 and 10 pm in the evening with him walking to his cage, up the front and closing the larger front door behind himself. He gets a drink of water and makes his way to his sleeping branch (at near 3" (75 mm)) its clearly a branch. All followed by some Bill grinding and a couple of evening contact calls and then off to the AmaZone!

I wish my new yna was that easy. I've only had him for a month and we're still getting acquainted. His main cage is on our porch and we only have room indoors for a portable one and he gets so mad at me when I put him up for the night. I have to use a stick to transfer him to it and he only bites the stick when hes being put away so I know he's upset. I hate that I have to stress him out to go to bed but we have raccoons in our neighborhood so he can't sleep outdoors. I welcome any suggestions.

Do you see any signs of the Racoon being on your porch? Stuff moved, presents left, etc...? You really want to assure that you have emptied the cage and cleared any trace of food and water!

It's still early from the point of ownership, and as everyone settles in so will the bedtime routine.
