I brought Roy, my 10 yr old YN Zon home Sunday. I was told he loved men, but he and I seemed to get along fine, until I brought him home and he met my husband! It was love at first sight, he still likes me, but does anything to get to my husband, wants to eat what he is eating, etc. He has bitten me a couple times now when I have taken him from my husband. Any suggestions on how to take him from hubby without losing all nerves in fore arm? I have grabbed his beak to make him let go...today he was in hubbys home office thinking he was really cool, and I had to take him out...he is still mad, that was two hrs ago. He threw his toys at me! I tossed them back and tried to make a game out of it, he fanned his tail, eyes pinning, he threw ball I tossed back, then I would tell him it was a good throw. At one point I clapped and carried on, he seemed to like this he stood up tall wings went out...but then he dives to bite me...I tried to get him a treat and he nipped at my back?? He is in time out now...sorry for long post!

Its really hard when they just bond to one person:(
Codie has only bonded with me and will not take to my OH at all!! He has tried and tried with her for months now, but she still freaks out!! She will let him take her out of her Cage and put her on her Playstand, BUT! that is only if I am not around!

That's good advice, don't try and play with her when the favorite person is around. Never try and take her away from her favorite person. Your just setting yourself up for failure. Try playing with her when he's gone or asleep. Don't make it where she has to decide between you 2 ,you'll lose. My wife and I both have pet zons who prefer us, but we both can handle them and even remove them from their favorite person,. Sure it takes a long time and lots of patience but it is very doable.Of course it will take a lot of help from your husband too.

Yep, Hen nailed it pretty good, we got 2 YNA's, one tolerates me more than the other but when the wife's around I really don't mess with them. Irks me too since Zons have always been a favorite of mine. I really brought it upon myself though. I had just got our 1st GW macaw and the wife was a tad jealous of the obvious bond that developed rather quickly between us. So when we got our 1st Zon, I let her do the hand feeding and nurturing of it. (In other words, I was told by the wife and our breeder to stay the **** away from it so it would bond with the wife) Obviously, it turned out as planned a little TOO well......and as they say, the rest is history. I can still mess with them and they'll sit on my shoulder and such, but if the wife is here, I'm pretty much chopped liver. :(

(that's ok though, I got my GW's :D)

Ya, they are very protective of their favorite person.. About body language of the typical Amazon. Eyes being bright orange and pupil pulsates, they fan their tail feathers, they begin spreading wings out to look bigger, feathers ruffle on neck to look bigger. They could start making a coo sound as they pace..
