I thought it might be time to do a little photo update of Raven and his little sidekick Griffin since I haven't shown these boys for a while. ;) I'll post pics of Griffin separately.

Two of my birds are juveniles, and are of species who undergo a color change as they mature. They aren't sexually mature yet, and probably won't be for at least a couple more years, but they are having their first big molt. I thought I'd do before and after shots. They're not quite "finished" with the color change, but enough to see a big change.

Raven, my Bronze Winged Pionus. The BEFORE pic was on his 1st birthday in August. The after pic was today.

RAVEN BEFORE

RAVEN AND GRIFFIN BEFORE

RAVEN TODAY, beautiful dark blue. Still not completely in color. Maybe about 40% to go.

RAVEN TODAY, you can see where he still has some to go from the muddy greenish brown to dark blue. Getting there...

wow, what a handsome little guy!

Here's Griffin, Ruppell's parrot (Poicephalus).
Sometimes at random a Ruppell's chick feathers out with an extensive area of yellow (no one knows why, and most chicks are solid gray). Here he is at 3-4 months old, a recently weaned little boy. Here he is sitting with Raven.

One yellow belly feather left :)
I'm not sure if he'll keep going at this point and become 100% gray FIRST before attaining his "adult" colors? The adult male Ruppell's is a solid brown/gray bird with yellow shoulder caps and yellow/orange legs. Here's the cutie...

They are so gorgeous! Wow, the colour change is amazing, I can't wait to see when they are completely adult coloured. I am so glad you started this thread, where you can post updates as they continue to change:)

Wow! Thank you for sharing before and after photos. That's so interesting to see the dramatic color change. Stunningly handsome boys.

Thanks so much for the kind complements :)! Raven still looks a bit scraggly with missing feathers here and there, but who wouldn't after molting since August LOL. They had a bath today so I figured he's decent enough for a pic ;).

Here's one of my favorite pics of Griffin showing the change happening. I laugh at this one every time! His facial expression and his legs LOL!!!

Hahaha, I love that photo of Griffin! He looks so excited with his newfound treasure, and those legs look like they are made of rubber. Too cute!

WOW Julie! They are both changing so much! Ravens blue color reminds me of a peacock lol. Is he somewhat iridescent? And Griffin is going gray:D You must be cleaning a whole lot of feathers at your house right now!

Both Raven and Griffin are handsome and look so healthy. The cages and toys are such a nice environment for them - they must be so happy!!

Wow, What beautiful babies! Raven is really amazing. I also love the pic of Griffin stretched out on the toy. All that baby yellow on Griffin was SOOO cute!

WOW, what a transformation indeed!

One thing is certain: They are both STUNNING, Julie! :D And boy did I crack up laughing at Griffin's last picture. ...his legs....HAHAHAHHAHA!!!!

Griffen is a beautiful little boy, VERY nice looking birds Julie!
