I just thought it might be fun to have a place to post the funny little things that our birds do or things we realize about living with birds.

I thought that once my kids were grown and gone I would be done with having to share the food on my plate.

Wrong! Now the first bite goes to Fidget, or else!

Why does my PARROT honk like a goose? He has such a limited range of vocalizations and by far his favorite is the honk of a big Canadian goose.

Still amazes me nd the wife that we share our lives, our homes or very existence with a bird. bird. Birds fly away at your approach, at best they come closer if you braod cast seeds for them, or bread crumbs . Now e have a bird that not only comes close to us, he seeks out our company. he begs for physical contact, talks to us and depends on us for company and entertainment. a Bird, a real live bird. it is amazing. A bird who we understand, and who understands us. Thank you God for this miracle to happen.

I was sick when romeo came to me. So the first vocalization I taught him was to cough. The second was blowing my nose.

Now be also gobbles like a turkey.

I got Stephen because he bit everyone. Turns out it was because he had to poop and didn't know where. He'd bite so he'd go to his cage. 3 days here and y'all fixed me so now we listen to him better so no bites!

I have spent more money on produce the birds refuse to eat than on food they will.

Birds are jerks. Sweet, loving, demanding, goofy jerks. I can't imagine my world without them.

I have been living with birds for just over 30 years. Cannot imagine what life would be like without them! It is truly a privilege to have such playful, intelligent, and inquisitive companions!!

Nigel is the anti-grey African grey. He has his grey snobbery intact but also loves to be with the family at all times. He crows like a chicken, tells me when he has to poop and is king of this household. His Majesty is a benevolent dictator though and we cater to his whims.

Seems that our guys are brother's from a different mother! Since, for whatever reason, they both have taken to a very specific sound. The honk of a Canada Goose!

Our guy grow-up on the West shore of large bay, where his honking buddies would apply their daily communications. So, I know where he learned it. Today, from early Spring to early Winter there is a small gathering of his buddies that have taken ownership of a small pond a short 400 ft. (120 meters) North of us. He clearly takes great pride in calling his buddies and the Goose Police over to our place, but that's another story!

He has yet to pick-up the sounds the three different groups of wild Turkey that wander past his over-view of his World, which he takes great pride in his ownership!

The first week going to visit Timneh I bled from one or two hard I mean business nips everyday. Even looked like the little grey monster would eat it. Thanks to my adrenaline and excitement I barely felt it, cause her beak seems way sharper now, LOL. Everyday she seemed to get more excited that someone was coming back to see her and bringing treats. Now she butts my hand for more scratches and pets all night long. If she manages to make me say ow she looks apologetic and dips her head for a scratch. I couldn't of gotten luckier with my Timneh, and my choice of forum's thanks everyone.

I have purchased a ton of toy making supplies for my boy. Anything I put together for him he loves and destroys immediately! I use lots of colored wood blocks to make them bright and colorful for him. What I am seeing is that he always destroys anything yellow first! I'm not sure if he loves yellow of hates it!

I have enjoyed reading everyones comments here. In my recent journey of being able to rehome my own grey to myself, you all are giving me some great reminders of why I bought him in the first place 15 years ago frustrating as he may be right now.

I came in from outside last night, it was late, sissy had made her way to the floor to play with cat toys. She looked at me and said " hey momma " None of my other animals can speak, so it pulls at my heart strings when sissy does.. Can't imagine my life with out birds.

Until you have been in the company of birds long enough, you think of them as 'pets'!
So wrong! You MUST give them respect, attention, love, as you would give a human companion! And not just when you are in the mood!
They rely on you, but still maintain their dignity, and please, don't try to take that away!
I remember when our daughter brought the first bird into our home. I was blown away with this little gal's complexity! When our daughter moved out, we said, 'BYE',, Tango stays!
When Tango was killed, we were devastated! I also lost a human daughter, and I must say, the pain is somewhat similar!

My little JoJo? He is my life! Always happy to see me, gives me warning bites when I am too stupid to see the danger!

Last night I woke up to the sound of Fidget thrashing around in his cage! As I started to get out of bed I felt the earthquake shaking my bed. After it stopped, I got up and calmed Fidget down as best I could, he had fallen off his perch. I went back to bed and about 3 minutes later, it happened again! He recovered much more quickly this time. Then a bit later I was still awake and he started thrashing around again, I was waiting for the shaking, but I never felt it, but it had happened. Fidget had felt it, but I hadnt!

My Fidget is an earthquake alert system!

Yes, birds have specialized vibration sensors in their legs. Maybe to detect a snake slithering up in the dark? Our Amazon used to do that now and then, have a cage fright for no appararent reason, then we'd see on the news a tiny quake some distance away. He felt them.

I love the way my birds both love me and respect me. I sleep until quite late in the day. They are quiet and will fly in and sit on me every once in a while to see if I'm awake, but not be noisy. Once they hear me get out of bed it's a racket of macaw voices calling "MOMMY" to get me to give them their morning cuddles first.
