Looks like some kind of conure, maybe a Sun conure, but there are many variants. One of the conure people will know...there is forum for conures that will have pictures, also.

The picture is not clear at all and very dark, but it's either a jenday conure or sun conure. Need a clearer picture in the light. I think I see yellow on the back? Which would be a baby sun conure molting into its yellow feathers.

Welcome to the forums, Jackson! We're so glad you joined us! Thank you for helping a needy parrot. For now, I would concentrate on basic care, the bird is in a brand new environment, he or she will need time to adjust and gain trust. I agree with David/Flboy, the only companion your new buddy needs right now is you. Best of luck, please let us know how it goes.

Beautiful little guy! You may want to consider upgrading the cage, that one appears to be galvanized! If it is, that will poison your new buddy in a very short amount of time! Zinc is deadly for birds! Do you plan on keeping him outside? Or will he move in with you?

Yep, sun conure. And yes, if that is galvanized steel cage please replace it immediately.

Sun conure, is my guess. He needs to settle in, so spend as much time as you can with him. Getting a second one should be way, way down on the list and even them carefully considered. X2 the parrot is X2 the time you need to spend with each, X2 the expenses, X2 the food cost, and they may hate each other, or bond with each other and want nothing to do with you. Or they may be your best buddies, you can never tell.

Looks like a juvenile sun conure for sure. They have more green feathers when younger. Those big black eyes and shorter, rounded beak all remind me of my Sun, Boomer when he was 1-2 years old. Thanks for taking care of the little guy. They love to chew, shred and forage. Might want to add a few more activity stations in his cage. Gradually ween him off sunflower seeds slowly as soon as you can. Introduce him to veggie / grain / fruit chop mix (look up recipes on this forum). Supplement with pellets and almond and other nuts. Best of luck!
