I have two cockatiels, 18 and 20 years old, i'm wondering if I could add maybe two more tiels into their cage? when the 20 year old dies, I dont want the 18 year old to be sad. he has leukemia so its only a matter of time. the vet said he will pass within 2 years.

also, I have a parakeet that is 8, he previously had a mate but she flew out and broke her neck. could I put maybe two female parakeets into his cage? or should i put two males?

or should I just let them be?

Before you add any new birds into any cage, introduce new birds by keeping them in another cage next to the original. After they've seen each other a while, and have met on neutral ground, they will go in & out of each others cages. After a while of that, they can be caged together. It is not a good idea to put new birds in an established cage immediately. They will fight over territory, food, mates, etc. Also, bringing in younger birds to older ones can be like young people dating old people. There are different energy levels, and can be stressful. Unfortunately, long introductions are best. And they don't always work out. Good luck.
