5 year old African Grey
2.5 month old Pineapple Conure
So my question is does anyone know what type of Conure this is? I think it’s a green cheek but I honestly have no idea what I’m dealing with here, I bought it off of a breeder and I’m going to pick him up this Friday. Please reply ASAP, thank you.

Wow!

The breeder doesn't know or didn't say what the bird is????

Did they give you any basic information? I'm very concerned about that...

I'll offer some information while we figure this out... I often give this to new folks here.

Most of us swear by our avian vets in the event of health concerns. I don't know where you are, but here are some links. I only have USA info...

In my opinion, any of the vets listed here should be better than a regular vet.

What's the diet? That's critical for health. Too many are kept on seeds or other poor-nutrition things. They need veggies, legumes, grains... pellets are a good staple. Here's what I use.
Harrison's Bird Foods
I feed Harrison's, supplemented by fresh healthy treats. My first, and later, my current avian vet recommended it. My bird loves the pellets now, but to get him converted, my avian vet suggested putting pellets out all day, and putting seeds (his old diet) out for two 15-minute periods a day. That would sustain him but leave him hungry enough to try new stuff. I presume the same technique could be used to get him to eat other healthy stuff, like fruits and vegetables! My guy was eating pellets in a couple of days, and now I can feed a good variety of other stuff, knowing he has the pellets as a basic. Pellets are out all day... fresh treats a few times a day. I also like Harrison's via mail because I never have to worry about out-of-date products.

Since you're new parront, I'll just drop a note about avoiding teflon pans, which are lethal to birds if even slightly overheated.

I'm glad you're here. Lots to learn and share and enjoy!

Well I live in the Middle East where breeders don’t really care about the type of bird, they just do the best they can to raise it, we don’t really have any specific names for the type in Arabic, we just call them conures. I also have had an African grey for about 5 years now, and I had 2 cockatiels which I had to sell unfortunately, so I do have some experience with parrots, but never Conures. Thanks for making the thread btw.

My pleasure!

I understand more now. Well, stick with us. We're bird lovers here and we will help you.

Looks like a variety of a Green Cheek to me, but we have lots of GCC people here who will know the variety for sure.

Any information you need, both GaleriaGila or I, actually there are many members that can tell you what to expect from conures. Please contact Amsterdam on this site as he lives in the Middle East and may have local contacts. As well, he and his wife are familiar with ME brands and their availability.

Gail, can you approach him, please? If not, I will but it may take longer. Thanks!

I was under the impression that GCCs had atleast a hint of green, do you guys think that maybe this is a mutation of some kind, since he consists of yellow red and black, or is there a chance that it’s a different type?

Hi Jan ...Congratulations with your baby❤...He or she is young....so he/she isn't
ful colored....pretty sure it's a Yellow Sided Green Cheek. But what a sweetheart it is😍😍😍😍

It's definitely a Green Cheek Conure, and probably a Yellow-Sided...

We can't see the bird's wings/body/tail in that photo, he likely is green...

Thanks for the replies everyone, and thank you GaleriaGila for making this thread for me, I really appreciate it. I’ll be sure to come back here if I ever have a question. Goodbye for now!

It looks just like my Yellow-side GCC. Are his underwings and legs yellow? There's probably some red inside his legs.

We'll look forward to it. I hope you'll drop by now and then to let us know how your new conure is doing! More pictures would be great!

To the OP, you don't only have to come by when you have a question!!! Come on inside, take your coat off, and stay a while!
